Charity Bike Week Organized By Thai Visa?

Admin and mods, have you ever thought of organizing such event?

Obviously starting bikers forum has proved to be great success, every day more and more members posting in it and providing some really valuable information.

With current membership of over 70,000 people I believe such event would generate great interest among the members. I am aware that you have annual TV parties all over the Thailand but how about organizing biker event once every year in different city for charity purpose?

Over the years it could develope into major International tourist attraction. I am sure there are bunch of us here who would volunteer to help in organizing this event.

Any thoughts?

That's what's so cool about the biker scene in Thailand- everyone is welcome to the rallies and everyone gets along.

You see 50cc Honda Cubs and liter plus bikes all mixed together and it's all good, the way it should be!

Gotta love the Thai biker scene!

Great idea, we could help out.

Unfortunately I have no much time for this, as my schedule is pretty busy at the moment. If some of you guys could arrange it, we would be happy to help you with the marketing bit, and try to get some sponsors.

One important point is that we normally do not engage in charity events, but if we can be 100% assured that the funds will reach its destination without too much "administration costs" I am willing to consider it.

Ok guys, where do we go from here?

Allright guys, you heard the admin.

First, let's set up some kind of organizing body.

Second, we should choose the venue. Surely it has to be province that didn't host motorcycle event recently. Take into account monsoon season too when choosing time of the year.

Third, post your ideas and artwork for event T-shirt, flyers, banners, patches etc....

ok if you want the Bangkok Thai bikers to attend as well it will need to be fairly close to Bkk. maybe Kanchanaburi, Nakhom Pathom, etc

Kanchen would have some nice ride outs.

Hi Thaicbr, same for 1 of my two chapters..bkk sounds ideal..If Kanchanaburi pops into the picture the Resort Management Company I work for might get involved to support - in Kanchanaburi .....

Nice open space - and I have already previously done a small event there - only 200 bikes last time though....

We also work with a PR company that could help...

George: If you want to PM me I can give the details of the type of people I regularly work with and the owners of our company..

Cheers!

Chris

Cool. i think kanchanburi might be tops for this sort of event. because we have to start smaller and build it up. KB has lots of hotels, restaurants, bars etc. and some good ride outs. what are we raising money for. i would like to see something were there is a result. maybe build something. what are your ideas?

Hi Allan,

As Cro & George have mentioned - I can throw loads of ideas out - but might want to see how an Organizing Body" works out first...

I do know in Kanchanburi there are two homes for kids ( various ages )... Could look at the Red Cross, possibly any founddation that has a good profile for seeing that the money actually gets to its specific focal point.

Timing as well is a critical key - in addition, need to see what other events have raised funds for (not to repeat the same)...

Cash is a win win - however in one situation we were organizing (for a hospital that needed equipment) a friend recommended that we actually pruchased the equipment on the "Reaally need" list - vs. handing the check over....

Have to really do your homework on the fine print....

Loooking forward to contributing :-)

Cheers!

Chris

I think Kanchanaburi is fantastic choice for first "Thai Visa Bike Fest" (interesting name though). As a major tourist destination it would attract lots of publicity.

It shouldn't be pre-condition to attract Bangkok based riders, true enthusiast would drive down Hatyai if they have to. Bit far away for Malaysian riders who are regular at Thai bike weeks, even for some deep south based bikers but it don't matter much to us.

As I mentioned earlier, every year another province should host the event.

Classic Cigar mentioned 2 chapters of his Dragons MC willing to offer their services in organizing event so does Thai and Malaysian chapters of Ghost Riders.

If it could be held the week before / after another event, people would stop on the way...like Hua Hin on the way to Chiang Mai- well, prior to this year anyway. Just have to check the calendar and hope no one changes their dates.

  • 2 weeks later...

I am the Chairman of the Chiangmai Toy Ride

www.chiangmaitoyride.com

How about having it the weekend of the Chiangmai Toy Ride and use the Toy Ride as the daytime ride event?

The CMTR fits the charity goal and no problem to meet financial scrutiny that the funds go to the kids

Hi Hog Head,

Sounds great - not sure the timeline of availability of some..CM...

If we opt on Kanchanaburi - my company manages a resort about 35 Km before the Dam... Very scenic and I can sort the room rates - and property bits...

Can a moderator let us know if a "Committee" has been organized that we can go through - I saw it mentioned earlier - great idea.

I'd be up for a one day charity ride to Khanchanaburi.

I have an idea of each participant kicking in 500 or 1000 baht for charity. Then if sponsors are located they could support food & drinks at the destination.

My charity of choice would be the orphanage in Pattaya that Jesters support. 100% of monies cleected to go to the charity.

Please feel free to chime in.

The dcestination could be the resort that classic cigar mentions.

Dotcom if its in Kanchanaburi then i think the proceeds should stay in the same province. that way as we change province location every year lots of different places benefit.

Hoghead. i think that the 1st one will be KB so a bit of a ride up to CM. but with your experience you will be a help. Thanks Allan

The Chiangmai Toy Ride is held annually the 1st Sunday in January, with ALL proceeds going to children "under the radar" in the CM area.

Our Committee can provide all the infrastructure for the ride including BIB traffic control and escort, ambulance, starting and ending venues, band, entertainment for the children, and perhaps most importantly a fully transparent Thai registered Charity to handle the money.

See our website for an idea of what this is all about - www.chiangmaitoyride.com

If the TV Ride is to be held in a different province every year, how about considering CM in Jan 2010?

On a personal note I am up for a TV Ride anywhere, anytime but Sonkran, with all proceeds to charity.

Would like to help where needed. Jesters "Care for Kids" money actually goes to many projects now - all "kid" based. They do not hand over the money they build dormitories, buy computer equipment, beds whatever the chosen projects have asked for. Mind you this will be the 12th year and it has taken a long time to get it all right, even now there is still room for improvement. I am here in Pattaya.
