I hope a few TV readers can help here. I correspond with a well educated Thai guy who wants to improve his English language skills. At work, he only mixes with fellow Thais.

He has received a scholarship to study English in India but admits he would rather study in USA or Australia. He will have chance to study in Australia if he can pass TOEFL or IELTS exams which are quite difficult for him.

On his sugestion, I corect his emails (like a school teacher) to improve his English to the level of a native speaker. He wants to know if I could recommend a few websites to improve his English.

I am thinking of Australian news websites, such as news.com.au which are written in simple English.

Any suggestions welcome.

I'm sorry, I know it's just a typo but you've got to see the funny side - of all the sentences to make a mistake, it had to be that one...

Anyway, the BBC and BBC World Service websites have online English Language tutorials and exercises:

If he has a decent Internet connection he can rummage around the BBC radio 4 website and listen to programs online. If you Google for "From our own Correspondent" (Radio 4 and World Service Versions) you can download podcasts with ten minute monologues on many subjects around the world, some of which have transcripts so he can listen and read.

This is a very good web site. There are plenty of things to do in here. There are also BBC Media Player articles, which allows the learner to listen to English.
