Carmine6,

Couple of ways i break down notes is

1) If i am getting short i change big for small at reception of hotel (never a problem although doesn't help if you aren't staying at a hotel)

2) i can't get through the day without a Macdonalds ice cream so thats always a good way to break a note cheaply.

3) seven eleven shop... easiest way of all

Could someone please explain to me what all these posts about ATMs and the 150 baht fee have to do with "Thai Hotels Step Up Discounts And Promotion Packages", the subject of this thread?

There are in fact (too) many threads about the ATM fees in numerous forums (e.g. this forum, General Topics, Chiang Mai and so on).

/ Priceless

"12 months, 7 Stars, 9 Suns - Any details of exactly what this campaign will involve?

I don't know, but it sounds like something for Full Moon Party promotions..... "12 months, 7 Stars, 9 Suns, 2 LSD's" :)

great TAT campaign slogan... they never seem to run out.

Anyway, if someone knows any explanation would be nice.

weirdly-named promotions finally explained....

TAT's '12 months, 7 Stars and 9 Suns'

The Tourism Authority of Thailand has launched a campaign called "12 Months, 7 Stars and 9 Suns", which aims to increase domestic tourism by 5 per cent, particularly during this low season.

Juthaporn Rerngronasa, TAT's Deputy Governor for Marketing Communications, said the project had been organised with the objective of stimulating tourism by promoting various wonderful and unique products in different Thai locations.

"The TAT is using more tactics to encourage local tourism. We hope this new campaign will help domestic tourism to grow by 5 per cent in this low season," said Juthaporn.

Tourism operators are suffering from the domestic political instability and global economic crisis - factors that have caused international travellers to stay at home - while Thais have also been avoiding travel in these tough times.

Among the highlights of the "12 months" part of the campaign are the Sakura Flower Festival in Chiang Mai, which is held in January, the beautiful coral at Surin Island - billed as particularly worth visiting in March - plus the annual congregation of butterflies in April at Krang Krachan Dam in Phetchaburi province.

The "7 Stars" element consists places to visit when it is dark. The destinations are the "Stonehenge of Thailand" in Chaiyaphum province, the newly opened Golden Dragon Museum in Suphanburi and the Fire Rocket Festival in Nakhon Phanom.

For the "9 Suns", the agency is promoting Phanomrung Historical Park in Buriram province, the Emerald Cave in Trang, and a sunset spot at Phranang Cave in Krabi.

To promote the campaign, the TAT is preparing 100,000 free guidebooks for distribution at its offices nationwide.

The authority also invites local people to visit the Thailand Travel Mart, which is being held at Muang Thong Thani from today until Sunday.
