Tarragona
Carabao's new album has a song about Jatujak Market and claims it as the largest market in the world. Actually, the Thai lyrics say the 'largest weekend market' (with an English backing just saying 'largest market') and I've found that on a few websites too. According to the Guiness records website, the honour of largest open air market goes to the San Jose flea market: 120 acres, over 6000 stallholders. For Jatujak it would seem to be around 35 acres, 15,000 stalls. So, how to define 'the largest market in the world' and is it JJ?

No sure if it's the biggest though. Some of our more enlightened members might have an insight on this.

Surely the biggest market in the world is China. Sell socks to the chinese army and you'll be as rich as Bill Gates.

It was a while since I was there, but I would contest that Merkato in Addis Abeba is larger than Jatujak, at any rate. Never been to San Jose. Oh No! Piece of self-righteous, shrivelled excrement I may be, or even (shsh...) a troll; but I am not that sort of farang! (what an idiot I am, you wrote, "have they started wearing socks, then") Where is that medicine...? Edited April 1, 2005 by Thomas_Merton
