Hi All,

I'm heading south tonight and I am looking for a quite beach town along the gulf coast. I will be starting a 10-day retreat at wat suan Mokkh on the 31st and would like to start my segue into quite this weekend.

I am interested in some place between Chumporn and Surat Thani.

Wat Suan Mokkh is in Chaya which is 60km north of Surat Thani.

One place that strikes me is Prachuap Khiri Khan.

Comments? Other ideas? Thanks!

Prachuabkhirikhan is right at the coast, but doesn't have a beach which is suitable for swimming, besides Ao Manao which is 10 KM south of the town.

Alternatively, there is a string of small beach resorts in between Hua Hin and Chumporn, going from North to South: Sam Roi Yot, Thap Sakae, Ban Krut, Bang Saphan Yai, Bang Saphan Noi. Also close to Chumporn there are pretty beaches such as Hat Cabana.

Hey Everyone. I ended up in Chumphon. I like the town not too many Farang and plenty of Thai living. Taxi bus to the beach was 30 baht and renting a moped for the day was 150 baht. I'm staying at the Suda guest house which is close to the train and the woman speaks English and is very attentive.

I will get more into the remote zones after the meditation retreat. Thanks for all of your suggestions!

Hi All, I too am looking for some recommendations for beach side resorts / hotels in the Chumphon area. I'm driving down to Phuket and want to break the journey with a stay over in the Chumphon area. Preferably something not too far off the route 4 highway and on the beach??

I see in an earlier post Hat Cabana was mentioned along with other beaches but no hotel recommendations, can anyone suggest any good beach resorts here? Very little on the web re resorts in this coastal area.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I'm still trying to figure out how Prachuab Kiri Khan got placed between Chumphon and Surat Thani.

Hat Thung Wua Laen, 15kms North of Chumpon has a few nice bugalow resorts and a few ugly as well, even a new hotel in the middle of the beach. None has a swimming pool though. The Chumpon Cabana at the South end of the beach does have a swimming pool though, but the hotel part is really ran down and they charge 150 baht for non hotel guests wanting a swim. Some decent thai restaurants mid beach and a nice bar where the owner plays guitar near the Cabana: Malibu bar, he makes good pina colada's and you can get food brought in from the nearby restaurant. I can recommend the eatery close to the Cabana: walk away from the hotel, first T section left, not the eatery right on the corner but the next one, Khun Sid, he now has a menu with photos.

Edit: 20/30kms South of Chumpon is Sawi, beutiful empty beach, did not see any resort there 5 years ago though.

35kms North of Thung Wua Laen (beyond the airport) is Coral Beach, a secluded small beach. 10 years ago a promotor had the idea to build some villas in a park with hotel/restaurant/swimming pool. It never took of, only one show villa was built together with a restaurant and a mini swimming pool, no resort/hotel. A brilliant idea that did not come through, same with the grandious Chumpon Airport 50kms North of town. No planes flying in/leaving.
