Back To Blighty!

I have recently replied to a couple of topics on here about bored in Bangkok, even though I have tried out some of the suggestions and advice offered I am still not convinced that I want to stay here long term. The missus and I moved here from New Zealand a few months ago (against her wishes I have to say) and now after a few long talks and much grovelling have decided to start the process of moving countries yet again :) .

The really sick thing is that the cargo ship only arrived in Bangkok yesterday with our shipping onboard :D so we will take delivery after Customs have pilfered all our best stuff :D nah! just kidding (They should leave us some!) and then re-pack it and make arrangements to send it off again for another 10 week adventure on the high seas.

I am no young sprog so I am disappointed in myself for not listening to my wife's advice about living here, she said it would not be easy, and me mister "I've been there on holiday loads of times and loved it" thought it would be the bomb to live in a country that is hot all year round, ha ha ha what an idiot I am! It's all good though I am not going to slag off Bangkok it is a very cool city no doubt, It is the heat that I find the most difficult thing to cope with, I will still look forward to coming back each year to see the in-laws and filling the empty suitcases.

So then, down to the real thread topic....do any of you readers have any good info on shipping companies that can provide a good service and reasonable price for our shipping to go to the UK. We are not moving furniture just a load of tea chest & book boxes plus a flatscreen TV stereo system toolbox etc, all up approx 12 boxes. The company we used to get it here was Seven Seas but they do not have a service from Thailand to the UK. I can research this on the web easily enough sure, but personal experiences count for a lot, of course most of the people who have found good shipping companies for shipping to the UK will be in the UK already :D so not much help here unless they keep up with the forums at home...hopefully they do. So if anybody out there can put me in touch with a decent company that maybe specialise in smaller consignments that would be much appreciated, a beer or 2 for a good recommendation could be provided with pleasure. I live round the corner from Pinklao Central & Pata but go to pick the missus up each night nr Asok BTS so a beer and a chat at the Robin Hood would be good if anyone is so inclined.

When we moved out here 5 years ago we used Hankyu, they have an office in Washington Tyne & Wear and a local one here in Soi Ruamrudee just off Chidlom.

Ok cheers for that, will look them up and see what they can do for us. We will be heading back to High Wycombe Bucks, I dont know if it matters where their UK office is located but I will certainly ask them and see what the options are :)

Good luck with your move to a cooler climate. The UK (Scotland) reported a low temperature that was colder than that of the North Pole the other day so I am sure you will soon cool down! The rest of the UK is a warm -2 to +3 degrees C at present!

I've tried several shippers and stuck with Global Power Logistics which provide an excellent service, and have their agent in Bristol (Davies Turner). All nicely organised. Contact Miss Nan at nan at bkk.global-gp.com and tell her Carl recommended her.

Best wishes for your travels, another adventure in life.

Hope your possessions arrive intact!

You UK folk must be tough - my nephew Edinburgh-born/working described it as 'a bit cold' when I asked him about the weather.

cheers

Move somewhere warm, don't be a fool. It doesn't have to be Thailand.

:) I know, doesn't seem like such a flash idea today looking at the UK weather. I have got dual nationality UK & NZ so maybe I should consider Australia hmmmmm! maybe.

Yep those of the Scottish persuasion are as tough as the inuits when it comes to coping with cold weather. I wonder how they find it here :)
