THAI denies rumours of delayed flights

BANGKOK: -- Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI) today moved to deny rumours that flights were being delayed due to pilot opposition to a new pay structure, while admitting that the pay dispute was damaging the national flag carrier’s reputation.

Mr. Wanchai Sarathulthat, who acts both as permanent secretary for transport and as the chair of THAI’s board of directors, insisted to reporters today that the reports were the work of people who bore ill will towards the airline.

According to the rumours, a number of pilots took sick leave yesterday in protest over the new pay structure currently being considered by the airline’s directors.

As a result, a large number of flights were said to have experienced delays.

But Mr. Wanchai insisted that of the airline’s 251 flights yesterday, 222 took off according to schedule, and that the remaining delays were a ‘normal occurrence’.

Nonetheless, he admitted that the negative rumours were doing nothing for the company’s reputation, while accusing THAI staff of failing to understand the new salary conditions.

The airline’s board has stressed that even though the new pay structure will see tax deducted at source, employees will see a definite rise in their monthly incomes.

one reason I don't fly thai is their inability to get their planes off the ground on time. And when it is because they are waiting for a self proclaimed poo-yai it just doubles the dissatisfaction.

up to them ..... and up to me
