Battle In Bangkok - This Is No Peasant's Revolt

When you post these numbers in terms of seats obtained only, the truth of the results is unfortunately obfuscated. Please look at the actual percentages in terms of votes and voters. Folks can have a look here to understand the true nature of the comparison of popularity amongst the political parties in the 2007 General Elections.

That chart doesn't seem to include Bhum Jai Thai in the color scheme. Did I miss it?

Since BJT was formed in 2008 after disbanding PPP, it's unlikely you'd find it on the 2007 map. But yeah, the balance of power has changed quite a bit since 2007.

So its okay to burn down entire shopping malls because someone doesn't give a <deleted> about me or treat me equally?<snip>Being angry at someone doesn't give me the right to go punch them in the face or burn down their business.

Maybe not, but I for one wouldn't waste the breath it would take to point out their rights have been violated.

(And in fact, you indeed saw what happened to the Kennedy clan.)

Maybe not? Then you are not really 100% sure it is not ok right?

Wondered where the Reds got the idea of burning everything down?

Didn´t Seh Daeng said "Bangkok will burn"? (before he bite the dirt)

From one of the videos of Arisman, many of his named targets have already been hit, but there are still some remaining targets from his list that haven't been burned to the ground.

I wonder when that will occur and what the ramifications will be.

According to Arisman on this video, his list of targets for burning are:

Siriraj Hospital, All Muslim Mosques, Government House, Important Ministries, Airports, Rajavithi Road, Bridges, Bank of Thailand, Commercial Banks, Military Barracks, Court of Justice, and NGO's

will all be destroyed....

"Not one of these will remain standing."

And there you have it the smell, or should I say stench of red democracy. These guys are totalitarian through and through, you can spot the scapegoating a mile off. Their myopic followers seem to fail to realize that totalitarian rule means out with the old rich, in with the new, everyone else becomes poorer and loses their human rights too.

I do hope they catch this guy. Threatening to burn down a hospital????? How low can you get?

The big worry is all the people cheering the idea of burning down places of worship, a hospital, airports (which they were so against being closed for a week), the justice system and NGOs........................ How to deal with people like that? I am all for a more inclusive society and a fair deal but what sort of society is it with this type of evil amongst it?

You might notice that it doesn't include any Puea Thai MPs either! When the PPP was disbanded for electoral fraud (some people are calling that a judicial coup) the Party List MPs lost their seats and the Constintuency MP's had to switch to other parties. Most of them went to PT, the rest went to BJT.

By-elections were held in Jan 2008, to replace 29 of the Party List MPs (5 party executives were not replaced, reducing the number of MPs to 475) of those seats 10 went to Chart Thai Pattana (Banharn's group), 7 went to the Democrats, 5 went to Puea Thai, 4 went to Prajaraj (the Royalist Party) and 3 went to Puea Pandin.

Thanks --- I need to bookmark your post! I always forget who went where in the elections to replace the party-list PPP's! Worth note ---- Dems took more of the seats than PTP did. The party list folks from CTP's area went with them ....

No I'm not saying its OK to use any form of violence, but when your vote is nullified by a coup and you've been treated like sh*t your whole life ... I can understand how it happens.

Besides I really can't openly advocate arson on this forum. But I have to ask if the past two months finally got the attention of the fatcats ...

My apologies, it appears that Jatuporn is in custody, my previous post was a mistake of mine, I was reading an article from a year ago, that presented itself and I did not notice the date was 2009 :)

So I apologize, even I can be wrong when speed is so available :D

Remember the old saying and rule # 1 that says I am never wrong and rule # 2 says if you disagree then go to Rule # 1: :D

Red Shirt leader out on MP privileges to return to face charges on May 27

BANGKOK (NNT) -- Puea Thai Party MP Jatuporn Prompan, one of the core leaders of the United Front of Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) has vowed to turn himself in to the police on 27 May 2010.

After being released due to his political rights, Puea Thai Party MP Jatuporn Prompan stated that he would submit to charges against him on 27 May according to Director-General of the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) Tarit Pengdit.

The Director General of the DSI stated that his deparment has already lodged charges of terrorism against three UDD core leaders who surrendered to police yesterday. Those three UDD core leaders are Puea Thai Party MP Jatuporn Prompan, Mr Nattawut Saikua and Mr Kwanchai Praipana.

Police allowed Mr Jatuporn to go free due to his rights as a member of the House of Representatives. However, Mr Tarit said that Mr Jatuporn pledged that he would turn himself in to the police again near the end of this month.

Mr Tarit added that the Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for Ousted ex Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and ten more UDD leaders on terrorism charges.

However, the court later suspended the arrest warrant on terrorism charges issued for Mr Thaksin for undisclosed reasons and decided to convene on the matter further on 24 May 2010 at 9.00 hrs. Mr Tarit admitted that he was surprised at the court's decision.

OH <deleted> - these guys just went around inciting their group to burn BKK and now one of them gets to walk free unitil he "Promises" to turn him self in... I had hoped that this incident would finally give this government the balls to get tough with those that promote violoence but seems i was just day dreaming. SAD SAD SAD

Jatuporn is a sitting member of Parliament. While parliament is in session he has immunity. A law in many countries to prevent the government from stifling the opposition. In theory they COULD have arrested him on stage and held him, but since he wasn't actively breaking a law as he turned himself in .....

Although i do understand the theory and can agree with it, i guess my main problem is what more do they want from him before they revoke his immunity. as it is, it seems that all you need to do is get into parmiament and then you can do as much hate speech as you like without worry of repercussions.

I agree that the Red Shirt leadership were foolish in not accepting Abhisit's compromise without trying to attach ridiculous conditions, but fail to understand how their surrender yesterday meant they abandoned their followers. Were they supposed to encourage their followers to fight to the death?

This is a stupid and irresponsible editorial.

Thai wife would like to give her opinion

Well this they preached on Red shirt stage

Now we see truth, rich cowards paid to make north thai people give up lives

I like to see Farlang that supported this pay some penalty, they helped to make Thai man violent and think he hero, same Farang cause many Thai to die

Hope these men can sleep good at night, now many Thai cry for lost man

If think this is about help Thai, you need new brain

look poster written in Farang language, all about get attention of Farang not for Thai people

I see many write to help Protest, Now you burn my county stop my sistars work, stop us make money to help family

Now you go leave Thailand we no want you here

Stay only good Farang who will help repair Thailand.

==========================================

How long will it be before all Farang get the blame for what happen

and this I agree with my wife, there are many on TV they have given support to the protestors that will now be seen to place a lot of blame placed on westerners

Anyone who supports the red cause now is a terrorist. No other way to put it. They are the SEA equivalent of Hezbollah now. I dread the day they seize power, for it will bring the darkest days in Thailand's history. No organization with a well funded terrorist wing must ever be allowed to function.

How does Arisman think the Muslims of Thailand would respond to these sorts of threats to burn down all mosques?

How does Arisman think the the followers of the two VIP's at Siriraj Hospital would respond to these sorts of threats to burn it down?

etc.

etc.

I think it is a well writen article by somebody who is well informed, unlike yourself............... Google the "jonestown massacre" and see how that guy Jones led masses of people in the wrong direction (almost a thousand followers commited suicide).............. Just as these lovely Isan folks, Ill-educated as most are, have been easily led astray. If you really think it is about Democracy -- you're naive......... If you notice that most of us back the Govt and a minority back the red-shirts----- If you know anything about Democracy, or life in general, you will know that the majority rules and wins............

majority rules and wins? majority does not mean they are correct! and Isan folks are not so ill-educated as you seem to think ... please to not speak for others ... and do not underestimate people ... btw, there was absolutely no reason for the military to use real ammunition! riot gear, tear gas would have been enough!!!

From what water hole did you suddenly appear from

which then bombed the crap out of it,seiged it, and generally acted like a spineless international cabal.

Somebody earlier in the thread asked about the extent of social inequality in Thailand. There are various conflicting statistics floating around the web in places like Wiki. One of the best sources is a United Nations Development Programme report from 2009

http://hdr.undp.org/en/reports/nationalrep...09_Thailand.pdf

The GINI coefficient is a widely used measure of social inequality. You’ll see that the table on p.79 shows that Thailand is doing less well than its neighbours. There is some discussion in the report about the significance of social inequality for Thailand.

" Human Reaction towards the lost of love ones who are being murdered openly without humane justice. "

I believe the reds who have lost life with the death of their love ones and or relatives in their struggle is doing the right thing. Burning down buildings and anything that is within reach, especially government buildings.

Speaking about the red leaders, this is the 2nd time around that they have disappointed the people who have trusted them. They gave up because they don't want to loose more life.

Let's face it, they have loose more life than they thought. Are they still in a dazed or a dream to live in paradise with rewards they getting when they surrender.

The poor , simple and hot headed Ban Nok's are the victims for both occasions. Of course many people now curse and despise the red for burning down buildings.

If those out there who swear to despise and not to sympathizing with the poor Ban Nok's . Than they themselves should experience the lost of love ones and think about how they will react. Especially their love ones are murdered openly without justice.

Those who have died under the guns of non Thai armies. Is there anyone out there to seek justice for them. Any department or any lawyers willing to take up the case. Can the poor Ban Nok's afford a lawyer to fight for their rights.

No, no , no . They are being bullied and lured into fighting for democracy from those who called themselves the leader of the red protest. What have they done for the past 2 months besides giving speeches like a super star on stage.

They lack leadership, unity and strategies. When the red is at its peak in Bangkok. Why have they not taken any action to force the government to step down. Why , after going through the humiliation of loosing for the very first time when the government uses military power and guns to murdered the innocence. The leaders ask for settlement for the safety of protesters . Thar can be easily understood and acceptable.

This 2nd time around. No, no, no !!!!!!! something fishy is in the air.At this juncture who is right and wrong does not matter anymore for the rest of the truly brave protester .

They wants equal, they wants to be heard, they wants revenge for their love ones who have died under tons of bullets . If government can spend those budget on snipers, bullets and hiring of neighboring soldiers. Than the government should have budget to rebuild the city.

To those who dares speaks bad and despise the remainder of the few brave reds who dares to walk the extra miles of burning down buildings.

Just ask yourself who started the battle. Who started the shooting, who are using the snipers to gun down and murder their enemies. How many innocence have died , murdered under the firearms of hired armies.

If the reds are not provoked they are peacefully protesting without arms and burning of tires to defend themselves.

Before anyone starts to think badly of the remaining true brave reds who did what they are doing.Ask , if your love ones , relatives and friends who died under the guns of the armies and government. What would you do, how will you seek justice for them. And if knowing, there is no justice what other actions will you take ?????

Bloop

wait till you finish your suspension and use your real name

I think we'll see a big unrest coming in November, when the elections are supposed to be held. The government did a great job publicizing that they will be holding elections in November, but a lousy job in publicizing that they were called off. In fact, if I remember right, only one of the ministers said that Abhisit had called off the election and it didn't even make headlines in most Thai newspapers. Most Thais I know, weren't even aware that the elections had been canceled, so this will add to the "broken promises" when November comes.

Agreed. But IMHO all the so called leaders are lunatics. Evidently they were never exposed to history. Fire up a crowd daily with hate speeches for two months and you creat a monster feeding on itself. Knowing all the time you are lying to them and if the going gets tough you will abandon them.

something to think about

Suthikiart Jirathiwat and Pracha Maleenont are quite close to Thaksin Shinawatra. They are still on good terms. If the reds set the blaze it would not make sense at all.

Places burnt down are symbolic of regime/system and representation of success. However the perpetrators are sparing many business locations

Dusit, MBK, ASTV, Nation, SisaoTewes, Pullman Kingpower, all left untouched.

Those would've been the reds' targets. Remember who was feuding with Central and BEC before all of this? Who was the biggest enemy of the Central Group and Ch. 3 in the past 3 years? The direct beneficiary of the fire is not reds or Thaksin...it's the man who feuded.

The fire kills 5 birds in one-stone: Channel 3, Central, Thaksin, Reds, Anti-Monarchists. Pongpat was used. Game over for Thaksin as he and reds are delegitimized, while opponents of Central/Bangkok Bank/BEC benefit. Think about this for a minute and you'll realise the missing jigsaw of this puzzle.

The men behind the blaze are the men who wanted to drive BEC/Central/BBL out of business and blame it on protestors. The fires irrevocably end the reds shirts movement for now, while Thaksin cannot conceivably ever return to politics or even to Thai soil.

The victims of the fire are not Thaksin/Reds's enemies. They are the enemies of Thaksin's enemies. Ultra-hardcore-right-winged conservative types stand to benefit from this chaos. Watch the aftermath closely and you'll see. Those who are desperate about clinging on to power are required to create an element of fear in the heart of its population. The incentive is greater than those who are aspiring to attain power.

People will go to great lengths to protect remaining interests while the threat is eliminated to foster a rally-round-the-regime type of feeling.

The goal of the movement to eliminate Thaksin forever from the system was not accomplished until today. It is end-game for him. We lose. Regime wins. May I stress not coincidence ASTV, Nation, PullmanKingPower, Dusit remain untouched. This battle is deeper than what meets the eyes. And SiSao is untouched.

True. CentralWorld was the biggest competitor for Paragon in the area. Now it's gone.

:)
