Dear all,

I'm a Thai student studying English in Scotland. I am holding student visa it will be expired next 4 months. I plan to marry with my Thai boyfriend who's studying PhD here as well. I would like to extend my VISA as a dependant of a Tier 4 (General) Student. As the first entry into the UK I got a student VISA eventually I need to apply for dependant VISA. I'm not sure it will be successed or refused.

Anyone has experience on this problem? Please give me some advice.

Regards,

Wa

Do you intend to marry in the UK or Thailand?

If the UK then you will need to obtain a certificate of approval from the Home Office. Once this is received you can register your marriage; see How do I give notice to marry or register a civil partnership with a registrar?

After the marriage you can then apply for an extension of stay as his spouse. I think that you would use Form FLR(BID), but am not 100% sure; so suggest that you contact the Immigration Enquiry Bureau for confirmation:-

Phone: 0870 606 7766

Textphone: 0800 389 8289

Email: UKBApublicenquiries(at)ukba.gsi.uk (Replace (at) with @; altered here to frustrate spambots.)

Address: UK Border Agency, Lunar House, 40 Wellesley Road, Croydon, Surrey CR9 2BY

Opening Hours: Monday to Thursday 09:00 to 16:45. Friday 09:00 to 16:30 (excluding public holidays).

You must ensure that the marriage has taken place and your application has been submitted before your current visa expires, otherwise you will need to leave the UK when it does and apply in Thailand.

If you intend to marry in Thailand, then after the marriage you can apply, in Thailand, as a Tier 4 dependant. See the dependant section of Guidance - Points Based System Tier 4.
