I wondered if there was any software I could download in order to monitor the UPS and shut down my PC in the event of a power cut. Firefoxx Posted July 2, 2005 Share Posted July 2, 2005 Most rock-bottom UPS's don't have a com port or usb port, either of which is required to do what you've mentioned. However, if yours does have one, you'll then need to buy a serial cable or usb cable to connect it to your computer (most don't come with one). If it's a UPS that uses standard protocols, windows XP can communicate with it directly (via the com port), and do what you ask.
