Whale Posted September 6, 2010 Share Posted September 6, 2010 What would you all recommend as a decent "cool" helmet for commuting in BKK? I am looking for something is safe but also relatively cool. I am using a Shark Evo 2 (black to make things worse) , its no problem having sweat mangled hair on my own time but if I commute to the office then I will have to shower at the office every morning on arrival (and there ain't none). Does not do anything to stop the sweat but keeps ones hair flat. I was fortunate that I was not in town so could keep up a good airflow for the whole trip. The noise helmets produce is often not taken serious, but did you know that most helmets produce about 80 decibels at speeds of around 65km/h. The average speed a motorcycle travels on the highway deliver a day's maximum noise exposure in just 15 minutes. I am looking for a new skid lid for my son, the one which came with the bike is too small for him so I will be using it. The shops we have visited so far have not stocked XXL or above sized helmets so we just bought a stop-gap affair. I would like to buy something of good quality but do not have 10k to spend on a helmet. I would probably go as much as 5k but not more. The heat is an issue though as my son is a sweaty bug3er so something with good air flow would be ideal. Like the OP it will be used for commuting and not up country trips. Any suggestions? GarryP Posted September 6, 2010 Share Posted September 6, 2010 I had a look through mocyc.com. While there are some intersting products, the range of XXL helmets seems to be quite limited. Obviously, they are catering to the main market and from reading a bit on this subject, the average sized Thai head is in the range of M, L and XL, XL topping out at 62 cm circumference. I liked on of the Shark models but I am not sure of the price. Also some of the Japanese helmets looked interesting but nothing in my son's size was available. I will keep looking as we are not in a great hurry as the bike is only beeing used in small sois until mty son gains more confidence to head out on to major roads. The one he has will do for now.
