Seven Thai Red Shirt Leaders Freed On Bail

It must be the communist faction of the red shirt movement.

It is likely more a fashion statement than an ideological one

Let's hope none in the red-shirt movement reads wikipedia:

"In the Middle Ages, ships in combat flew a long red streamer, called the Baucans, to signify a fight to the death."

Another Red Shirt Leader turned himself in, but this one is the leader of the infamous Love Chiang 51 gang and an admitted international fugitive with 20 charges pending.... still, he's released on only 100K bail this time after being on the run for 9 months:

Chiang Mai Red-shirt Leader Surrenders to Police

A fugitive leader of a red shirt-affiliated group in Chiang Mai has surrendered to police after fleeing the arrest warrant for terrorism and other charges related to the violent protests last year.

Petchawat Wattanapongsirikul, a leader of a red shirt-affiliated group in Chiang Mai province called Love Chiang Mai 51 Group, has turned himself in to investigators at Mae Ping police station.

Petchawat acknowledged charges of intruding the Provincial Police Bureau 5 headquarters before being temporarily released under 100,000 baht bail.

He then greeted a number of his supporters who gathered to offer him moral support in front of the police station.

Petchawat had escaped arrest warrants issued over terrorism and other charges related to his role during the violent protests in April last year.

The leader of Love Chiang Mai 51 Group said he was facing a total of 20 charges and submitted a bail request for two cases.

Petchawat noted that he fled to a foreign country early last year when an arrest warrant was issued for him.

He decided to surrender to police and would fight the cases in court after learning about the government's plan to dissolve the House and the upcoming general election.

Will those two fugitive red-shirts UDD leaders still surrender to police during the free concert at Bonanza Resort on Khao Yai on March 26 ?

K. Arisman could sing a song while there, like his all time favorite 'I burned it my way' :)

The Bonanza Resort will no doubt be hosting a number of the dreaded "elite" if their hotel rates are any indication.

I don't imagine very many of the rural Issan poor will be staying in their 6,000 baht per night rooms, but then again, maybe they'll just comp all their rooms for free.

It's time to gear up for yet another Red Shirt Rally...

Perhaps as stated earlier, Arisaman will turn himself in at this one...

Police Set for Red-shirt Concert at Khao Yai

Police are set to handle the red-shirt concert in Khao Yai this Saturday although local authorities expect no chaos.

Spokesman for the Center for Administration of Peace and Order, or CAPO, Police Major-General Prawut Thavornsiri, said today's meeting discussed plans to keep peace and order at a concert planned by the red-shirt group at Bonanza Khao Yai Hotel on March 26.

CAPO expects about 20,000 to 30,000 red-shirt supporters at the event, and local police as well as those from the Region 3 Provincial Police Bureau will be responsible for security watch.

Red Shirt activity ramps up for coming elections

KHON KAEN: Red Shirt activity in Northeastern Thailand is ramping up ahead of an expected house dissolution which will pave the way for fresh elections in the coming months.

In Thailand's Isaan region, about 350 km from Bangkok, a village has declared itself an official red shirt village - with images of ousted Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra highly visible, and crowds wearing red shirts and cheering as red leaders spoke at a local temple.

An election looks likely for the Kingdom by July. The red shirts are expected to vote en masse for the opposition Puea Thai Party, linked strongly to Mr Thaksin Shinawatra.

No sign yet of Arisaman surrendering at the Bonanza and Jatuporn has come out with his typical over-inflated number saying he expects 100,000 Red Shirts to show up today. So far, they have 1,000 according to the other paper.

He also indicated that a number of Red Shirt dignitaries will be attending to participate in a big sing-song. The honored tenors are banned ex-PM Somchai, Thaksin lawyer Noppadon, and indicted Red Shirt co-defendent (and Deputy House Speaker) Apiwan.

The obligatory Thaksin phone-in will also occur followed by a rare treat of Thaksin joining in with the singing.

Sounds like a very cozy and special evening unmatched since he graced his Manchester audience with his silky voice:

Becoming a bit worn now Bucholz, you're becoming almost as obsessed as Tharit.

Bucholz : No sign yet of Arisaman surrendering at the Bonanza

Reality : Jaturporn says "They are likely to come back soon, possibly before the concert at Bonanza," he said, referring to a "homecoming" party for the released red shirt leaders scheduled for March 26 at the Bonanza Khao Yai Resort in Nakhon Ratchasima.

Bucholz: Jatuporn has come out with his typical over-inflated number saying he expects 100,000 Red Shirts to show up today. So far, they have 1,000 according to the other paper.

Reality : According to the other paper (which quoted that figure at around 1pm and said that they were starting to gather for an event due to start at 4pm) - any links to the Jaturporn 100,000 claim Bucholz ?

And just to make his point, a completely irrelevant link to a video of Thaksin ( except that he will claim this is to illustrate the expected karaoke part of the evening as predicted by rubi with the usual tired "I'll burn it my way")

Can you guys not tag team in a more interesting way? Or at least add something different to discuss on the very old "7 redshirts on bail thread".

Can't link to the BP breaking news on 'UDD chairwoman arrives at Bonanza' from 26/3 1.10PM, but it said something like "Jatuporn Prompan, a co-leader of the UDD, said on Friday that the red-shirts concert will last until 6am on Sunday. He expected more than 100,000 red-shirts would join the activity."

Having responded to the more on topic remarks, now let's have some fun.

Tag team ? Buchholz/rubl inducing innocent red-shirt supporters and others to make self-discriminating remarks and then hound them down 'we know your IP, we know where you are, we will come and get you'

Mind you maybe a good idea for a new Television series "Buchholz & Rubl, agent provocateurs". Buchholz the more aggressive, abrasive type, myself the well-meaning Dutch uncle :D

Reality ---- Jatuporn wasn't speaking about Arisaman who is NOT a released red shirt leader. Arisaman is an at-large red shirt leader with multiple arrest warrants dating back a long time. Arisaman promised a year ago that he would turn himself in on April 1st 2010, we can now only assume that the statement was an early April Fool's joke.

JD, your reply seems not to refer to the one you quote, but to another post:

As for k. Arisman promising to turn himself in on April 1st, 2010. Unlikely, he only became a fugitive from May 19th, 2010 onwards. :ermm:

No, Arisaman was wanted prior to that. There was an arrest warrant that they tried to serve on him in March 2010 at Pan Fah bridge.

hahaha... quoting "reality" in regards to Red Shirt statements is a bit rich. They've given out three different surrendering timeframes since February.

The other paper's report is where all the information in my post came from, including Jatuporn claiming they will have 100,000 Red Shirts there.

And just to make his point, a completely irrelevant link to a video of Thaksin".

It was a promotional video for his Khao Yai concert. Many people upon hearing the golden voice of Thaksin sing for Manchester still have time to rush up to Khao Yai in time to hear him croon for the Red Shirts.

They need all the help they can get if they hope to get 100,000 in attendance.

Yes, that was the third time-frame the Red Shirts have given for their fugitive Leader.

First was "possibly" before the Bonanza concert, second one was by the "end of March"... and now "after" House dissolution, which is tentatively planned for May.

Lese Majeste Charges Sought against Red-shirt Leaders

The army chief has filed a lese majeste suit against a red-shirt leader for his speech on a rally stage last Sunday.

Meanwhile, the special investigation agency is preparing to file lese majeste charges and request bail withdrawal for some red-shirt leaders who are believed to have severely defamed the Monarchy when they took to the rally stage last Sunday.

The bail withdrawal request will be made with prosecutors on Monday.

Director-General of the Department of Special Investigation, or DSI, Tharit Pengdit, revealed that investigators have transcribed recorded tapes of speeches made by key leaders of the red-shirt group on the rally stage on Sunday at the Democracy Monument.

DSI investigators found that the address made by red-shirt MP from the Pheu Thai Party, Jatuporn Promphan, extremely defamed the Monarchy.

The DSI will also file lese majeste charges against other red-shirt leaders who made similar speeches.

They include Nutttawut Saikua, Weng Tojirakarn, Suporn Attawong, Korkaew Pikulthong, Kwanchai Praipana, Nisit Sinthuprai, Chinnawat Haboonpard, Wiputalaeng Pattanaphumthai, Yoswaris Chooklom, Somchai Paiboon, as well as Pasit Sakdanarong, who is the former secretary of the Constitution Court president.

On Monday, the DSI will meet prosecutors to submit a request for bail withdrawal for the red-shirt leaders for alleged violation of their bail conditions.

Tharit said he has received a phone call from Jatuporn this afternoon asking if the DSI will file a suit against him.

The DSI chief replied in the affirmative and added this is not a personal vendetta against Jatuporn but he is merely doing his duty.

Meanwhile, army chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha has ordered the military judge advocate to file a lese majeste complaint with police against red-shirt leader and Pheu Thai MPs Jatuporn Promphan and Vichien Kaokam and red-shirt leader Suporn Atthawong.

The action came in response to their speeches on the red-shirt rally stage at the Democracy Monument on Sunday.

The officer submitted a VCD and a transcript of the speeches as evidence.

Personally I haven't heard anything (not listening), so I'm waiting for Monday when the DSI wants to file a case. We will have more information then to judge. Anyone who has a sound-bite, or VDO clip of last Sunday's speech from k. Jatuporn?

trying to distance themselves from the pariah...

Pheu Thai uneasy over Jatuporn’s remark on 10 April

BANGKOK, 13 April 2011 (NNT) – The opposition Pheu Thai Party has denied responsibility for a recent comment made by its MP Jatuporn Prompan about the monarchy while the latter is planning to sue the Army Chief for accusing him of lese majeste.

Following Mr Jatuporn’s statement regarding royal family members issued on the stage of the United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD) on 10 April, Pheu Thai Party Deputy Leader Plodprasop Suraswadi declared that the Party had no involvement.

Although no warning would be issued by the party to the outspoken MP for his action, the deputy leader said most of the party’s members should have felt uneasy about the issue. He stressed that the royal institution must be upheld above politics and all citizens are required to show their loyalty and respect.

Meanwhile, after his remark was considered in violation of the lese majeste law by Army Chief General Prayut Chan-O-Cha and a lawsuit is soon to be lodged against him, Mr Jatuporn threatened to file a countersuit on 17 April over false accusation.

As the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) will also petition the prosecutor to consider revoking the bail of Mr Jatuporn and other UDD members for breaking bail conditions prescribed by the Court, UDD core leader Natthawut Saikua stated that a team of lawyers would travel to the Office of the Attorney General on 18 April to oppose the bail withdrawal request. He claimed that all evidence, including photographs and footage, had been prepared.

I guess that means k. Jatuporn spoke as UDD leader rather than as PTP MP. Does that mean he cannot claim MP immunity?

Apparently the Red Shirt Leader prefers a new title... as he requests to be invited onto a television show (strangely pompous) outside of the regular Red Shirt television channels...

Jatuporn wants to appear on TV show

BANGKOK, 13 April 2011 (NNT) – Deputy Chairperson of the United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD) and Pheu Thai MP Jatuporn Prompan has expressed his eagerness to elaborate the bloody clashes in the UDD protest last summer in a television show.

Mr Jatuporn stated that he wishes that television host Wuttitorn ‘Woody’ Milintajinda would invite him to join his show ‘Woody Kerd Ma Kui’ (Woody Born to Talk) since he wanted to tell the truth in all dimensions regarding the unrest instigation in the UDD protest last summer.

The outspoken MP added that he would launch a book after Songkran Festival, exposing the truth about who were responsible for burning and destroying buildings in Bangkok at the end of the UDD protest last April, which he said he would also be happy to discuss in the television show.

Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn graciously granted an interview session with ‘Woody Kerd Ma Kui’ show, which was aired on 3 and 10 April 2011. One of the issues mentioned in the interview was related to political demonstration, buildings burned down in the riot and national disunity.

As for the recent speech he gave on 10 April 2011 on UDD stage, Mr Jatuporn said he would like to warn people in the government not to use the monarchy for their political gain to destroy others. He stressed that all UDD supporters loved democracy and were loyal to the royal family.
