Woman Dies in Crash as Car Slams into Stationary Lorry on Bangkok Expressway

A 31-year-old woman was killed instantly and a male passenger seriously injured when a car crashed at high speed into the rear of a stationary six-wheeled lorry on a Bangkok expressway in the early hours of the morning of 6 April. The crash occurred on the Chalerm Maha Nakhon Expressway, near the Thanon Tok exit in Khlong Toei district. Police from Expressway Station 1, along with rescue personnel and doctors from King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, rushed to the scene following reports of a severe collision. Emergency responders discovered a white Isuzu lorry parked in the rightmost lane, with damage to the rear-left side. Nearby, a grey Chevrolet sedan, registration from Bangkok, was found with its front section completely destroyed. The windshield was shattered, and the roof had been torn open, exposing the interior of the vehicle. The female driver, later identified as Ms. Chatrasamont, 31, was found deceased, her body trapped in the wreckage. Rescue crews used hydraulic tools to extract her body. She had suffered severe head trauma, chest injuries, and a broken arm. A male passenger, seated in the front left seat, was seriously injured and transported to Theptarin Hospital for urgent medical care. According to a worker who had been on the scene, the lorry had been parked since 22:00 for overnight road maintenance work. The team had placed orange traffic cones and activated hazard lights. At approximately 00:30, while they were packing up equipment after completing their work, the car approached at high speed, failed to brake, and slammed into the back of the lorry with a deafening crash. Police are reviewing CCTV footage from the expressway and will wait for the injured man to recover, as they continue a full investigation into the cause of the crash. -- 2025-04-07 -

Furious Banana Farmer Sets Thief’s Motorcycle Ablaze After Repeated Thefts

A banana farmer took justice into his own hands after repeated thefts from his plantation, culminating in the dramatic torching of a suspected thief’s abandoned motorcycle. The incident took place at around 21:30 on 5 April in Moo 10, Na Nornod subdistrict, Mueang district, Phatthalung province. The plantation owner, 45-year-old Mr Boonrin, told authorities he had endured months of nightly raids by fruit thieves stealing bananas from his 4-rai farm, where he grows Nam Wa, Kluai Khai, and Cavendish bananas. According to Mr Boonrin, the problem escalated after his Nam Wa bananas began to ripen and were frequently stolen before he had a chance to harvest even a single bunch for sale. Fed up and desperate, he decided to take matters into his own hands and laid in wait inside the plantation. That night, the thief returned once again. “He rode in on a motorcycle and parked in the plantation,” Mr Boonrin recounted. “As he walked towards the bananas to cut them, I shouted out, ‘Why are you cutting my bananas?!’” Startled, the thief fled on foot, abandoning his motorcycle at the scene. Consumed with anger over the repeated thefts and feeling powerless after previous police reports failed to produce results, Mr Boonrin said he acted on impulse and set fire to the thief’s motorcycle, destroying it entirely. When asked why he hadn’t called the police again, Mr Boonrin expressed frustration with local authorities. “I’ve reported the thefts many times before, but the police didn’t seem to care and never caught anyone. I’ve been left to suffer alone, so this time I snapped.” The incident has sparked debate online, with some sympathising with Mr Boonrin’s plight and frustration, while others warn against taking the law into one’s own hands. Shoppers were left stunned in Saraburi on 5 April, as a local gold shop unveiled the largest gold necklace ever seen in Thailand, a striking dragon-head design weighing a staggering 456 baht and valued at 23 million baht. The grand debut took place during the grand opening of Rungsub Gold Group’s newest branch on the second floor of a major department store in Saraburi. As part of the celebrations, the store offered customers the chance to purchase gold jewellery without any added craftsmanship fees on 5–6 April, attracting crowds eager to take advantage of the rare promotion despite the soaring price of gold. Customers were greeted with a wide range of jewellery options, including gold ornaments, bullion, and diamonds in various weights. The promotion was positioned as a way to defy the upward trend of global gold prices. After 6 April, customers will still enjoy a discount on craftsmanship charges ranging from 50% to 80%. Taking centre stage outside the store was Ms. Phanpee Neerattanaphan, the shop owner, who welcomed guests while proudly donning the show-stopping 456-baht dragon-head necklace, now officially recognised as the largest gold necklace in Thailand. 15-Year-Old Boy Dies After Motorcycle Collides with Cow in Prachinburi
Pictures from responders. A teenage boy has died following a crash, in which his motorcycle collided with a cow that suddenly crossed the road. The incident occurred in the afternoon of 5 April on a village road between Ban Khok Sawang and Phlap Mai in Moo 4, Bu Fai subdistrict, Prachantakham district. Police Lieutenant Athorn Jitthin, the duty investigator at Prachantakham Police Station, received a report of the crash at approximately 15:40. Authorities arrived at the scene to find the lifeless body of a 15-year-old boy, later identified as Norodom, lying in a roadside ditch. His grief-stricken parents, who rushed to the scene upon hearing the news, collapsed in shock. Around seven metres from the boy’s body, a white cow was also found dead, having succumbed to injuries from the high-impact collision. The boy’s damaged blue-and-white Honda motorcycle was discovered more than ten metres away on the road, with broken parts scattered across the scene. Local residents reported that there were no warning signs in the area to alert drivers of free-roaming livestock. One villager said the cow’s owner had earlier called to ask if anyone had seen the missing animal, which had apparently escaped its enclosure. Truck Fire Kills Over 5,000 Chickens in Blaze in Saraburi
Picture from responders. A fire engulfed a six-wheeled truck carrying over 5,000 chickens on the Phahonyothin Road in Nong Khae district, Saraburi province, late night on 5 March. The blaze, which broke out near kilometre marker 93 in the inbound lane towards Bangkok, resulted in the deaths of all the chickens on board. Police Lieutenant Suthat Sonngao, an investigating officer at Nong Khae Police Station (Hinkong sub-branch), received the emergency report and immediately coordinated with the Ruamkatanyu Foundation rescue unit and firefighters from the Hinkong Municipality. Upon arrival, emergency responders found the truck, registration from Suphan Buri, completely engulfed in flames. The fire had spread rapidly, consuming the entire vehicle and its live cargo. Firefighters battled the blaze for over 30 minutes before finally bringing it under control. Sadly, none of the chickens survived. The driver, Mr Chaiyachart Srisuk, recounted the moment to authorities. He said he had departed from Phatthana Nikhom district in Lopburi province, heading to deliver the chickens to Kanchanaburi. As he approached the scene of the incident, he noticed flames erupting near the truck’s rear wheels. “I immediately veered into the frontage road and called out to locals for help,” Mr Chaiyachart said. “I tried to find a hose to extinguish the flames, but the fire spread so quickly and violently that it was impossible to stop. I could only watch as the truck and all the chickens were consumed.” The fire caused significant damage to the vehicle and led to the loss of thousands of livestock. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire, though initial signs suggest it may have originated from a mechanical issue in the brakes/wheel area. -- 2025-04-07
