Major Dental Work In Chiang Mai

Renoir

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I need dental crowds. I have heard that medical treatments are much cheaper in Thailand than in Canada. Here are a few questions:

1. Could you tell me how much getting a dental crowd cost including the exam?

2. Is there very good dentists in Chiang Mai or am I better to have it done in Bangkok or would you consider other countries?

3. Do you have the name of good dentists to refer to me?

4. Is it possible to have a quick appointment when I am there or can I take an appointment by internet? ( I am retiring in two years but I don't think those crowds can wait that long. So I am planning to have it done during a trip to Thailand in December.)

Thanks,

Renoir

Dental crowns (not crowds) are readily available on almost a walk in basis at a number of CM dentists including Chiang Mai RAM Hospital and Grace Dental Clinic (google those names). Prices vary but will be in the range of Baht 10,000 to Baht 20,000, depending on the materials used and whether a root canal and post is required. I've had much success at the CM RAM Hospital dentist department, just walk in and book an appointment, no need to pay the extra costs of Bangkok dentists/hospitals.

I had a crown replaced by a dentist in Lampang, when I got back to the UK I went to my dentist for a check up and he said it was good work done, and the price that I paid was about the same that he gets paid for national health dental work.

Why did you go to Lampang instead of Chiang Mai? What do you mean by "I paid about the same that he gets paid for national health dental work"? How much did you pay? What is national health dental work? Is it a national dental insurance for Thai?

Sorry about the mistake about "crowns". I guess I should have written a crowd of dental crowns... Would you say that dentists are just as good in Chiang Mai as they are in large city in North America? I need four crowns without root canal (partly for esthetic reason as my front teeth are not broken but not aligned and are worn out). This work has been suggested by my dentist. If I can get a crowd... of four crowns for 50000 baths, then my trip to Thailand would pay by itself with the saving.

There are lots of very good Thai dentists around these days. The Thai dental schools graduate good doctors. Decades ago the only place to get top rate dental care was at the Seventh Day Adventist clinics in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Phuket. Those clinics also served as teaching centers, and the foreign dentists, who usually spoke fluent Thai, also taught at the local universities. They would bring in visiting dentists from Loma Linda, and, as I recollect, the remarkable Dutch woman who use to run the clinic in Phuket had an affiliation with USC. Anyways, the Thais no longer need to depend upon foreign dentists to train newer generations. That is not to say that you can't run into a bad Thai dentist, but it should not be hard to find a good dentist in any large city.

By the way, in the US I never use native born golf playing dentists as I found the foreign born dentists to be just as good and far more affordable. But any major dental work gets done in Chiang Mai on my annual visit.

Question number one

I live in Lampang.

Question number two

I can't remember how much I paid.

Question number three

National health means what he gets paid by the UK goverment for doing non private dental work.

Question number four

It is not dental insurance for Thai

If I had managed to get to the UK for the dental work it would have cost me nothing thats the best of having a younger brother as a Dentist.

"... Would you say that dentists are just as good in Chiang Mai as they are in large city in North America?..."

Not to be disparaging but no, I would not say that.

Nevertheless, there are some good dentists in town.

Could you name some good dentists?

Google chiangmaidental4you .

UCLA trained and as good as any I used in the US - better than many. I've had a hella lot of work done.

A problem with larger clinics such as Ram or Grace is that you might not know which dentist you will get.

I've had a lot of work done in Thongnard Dental clinic. It's on the corner of the canal road and suthep road, up from suan dok, opposite the royal veg place. A bit cheaper than Grace and really excellent work. A root canal job, absolutely no pain, several crowns ( but not so many as to make a crowd!!) You even get a certificate to say the purity of the gold! ( not sure if you need it for customs/immigration!!). Cost, about a year ago around 10,000 per crown.

Phone number 053 277405, beware, only one receptionist speaks reasonable English, but all the dentists do of course.

I recently had a crown done at Chiang Mai University Dental Clinic on Suthep Road done (in two visits) for 5000 baht plus 1,200 for the lab work. It was about 25% cheaper than at a clinic where I got another quote. The work was efficient and caring. The only problem is that you have to go in advance to book an appointment as they always seem to be full--many Thais go there. The dentist was a professor at Chiang Mai University, and spoke excellent English.

So check around, as prices to vary substantially.

I had two extractions done last week at GRACE DENTAL CARE , Soi 11, Nimmanhaeimin Road -- a clinic often cited here,by some, as one of the best and the cost for each was 1520 baht; both were described as "complicated" for some reason.A discussion with Dr. Korokot ,trained in the US and well thought of by TV members suggested an implant would cost 50,000baht ; an upper complete denture 20,000baht ; a lower partial one, 15,000baht. I realise you were asking about crowns and I do not know what they charge for them but I thought these recent accurate figures would give some useful idea of costs and how they may vary among Chiang Mai Dentists.

Previous posts reveal Chiang Mai Ram Dental Dept to be a favourite of at least one TV member. McCormick Hospital on Kaeo Nawarat Road has also been recommended as has Elite Smile Dental Care near Pantip Plaza on the Chang Klan Road

I have used the Elite Smile dental clinic for a cap on my front tooth. The cost can vary depending on the post you use. I found the work to be really good and the price reasonable about 12,000 baht. The dentist told me I could use a crown on one of my back molars and the cost of it would be around 10,000 baht.

She did not try to panic me she told me that she could possibly fill the tooth but the gap was so big it might not hold. As it was I was not in immanent danger of needing it done right away.

The clinic is in the Pantip Plaza with a entrance from the street off Changklang

Pantip Plaza is located on the southwest corner of the Night Bazaar.

Cost of crowns vary massively depending upon the material used.

You'll find that when it comes to specialist in operating or doing some complicated cases like crowns, many clinics use freelance doctors. Note that the charge can be quite dramatically different even though they have the same doctors.

A friend while visiting in Jan. this year bit down on a peanut and broke his crown and part of the tooth. We where both in a huff about it because he was leaving in two days time. We asked around and were put on to a clinic in our location. well we went to the clinic next morning and they got him in and did all of the grown work cleaned up the tooth, took a impression, installed post, and installed metal cover over tooth. They put a rush on for the crown to be delivered next day for installation. He appeared the next day and crown installed at 3 pm. He had to be at airport by 5pm for a flight to India.

The service was great because of emergency the dentist worked on him between her other patients the total cost was 15,000baht 1,000baht extra for rush service of crown. I will be using this dentist on my return to Thailand in oct.

The clinic is located west of chiang mai gate on the outter road just beyond the 7/11 before the bangkok bank.

OP Pm me and we can set up a meet in Dec. and I will show you the clinic.

My friends dentist back here in the states gave the job a thumbs up And by the way get over the training of these dentist many go overseas for advanced traing met a lady last year who trained at New York University in New York, City.

Prices for two of the more well known clinics: Grace and Elite

Grace price list

Elite price list

I've never been to Elite, but I've made quite a few visits to Grace. They do great work, but very expensive. BTW, every extraction I've had there turned out to be a "complicated extraction" and every cleaning has been billed as "deep cleaning" even if they are done in 20 mins....
