Two nights ago I woke during the night with an itchy eye. Checking it out in the morning, my right eye was all red and very irritated.

I went to the McCormick Hospital Eye Center yesterday morning and was informed there was a viral infection going around the region. I was given two prescription eye-drop medications to take home - one for 'soothing relief', and the other an antibiotic to keep away any potential bacterial infection.

This morning I woke and the left eye is in the same condition. My eyes feel like ... well, crap! I hope the antibiotic works better than the soothing eye drops.

My immune system has to kick in and fight off the virus - no treatment for that.

A friend said that this condition struck the school kids about the same time as the flood here in CM. Don't know that its coincidence, or some connection - it just appeared in that time frame.

Happened to me years ago in Patts and I'll tell you how I got rid of it in no time. Sounds like a joke but it's not. I had the pink eye bad and my wife got some breast milk from a neihbor who was breast feeding. She put some in my eye and within an hour is was a hell of allot better and soon it was gone completely.

I'm totally serious!

Tit in eye is better than red eye for sure. Im currently on 3rd case in 3 months and thought it must be something wrong with immune system but seems its doing the rounds. Probably best to wash hands more often after leaving the house

What the hospital told you and gave you makes no sense. if it's a viral infection, then why give you an antibiotic? Antibiotics only work against bacteria, don't do anything against a virus. It's probably a bacterial infection. If it doesn't clear in the next day, try an oral antibiotic, like azithromycin. I had a red eye infection several years ago, the hospital gave me the antibiotic eye drops and they had no effect. The oral antibiotic killed it.

I picked up an unusual strain of it about 5 years ago in Pattaya. When I got back to the USA, I still had it and they had to bring in a specialist to deal with it because it was such a rare strain. It was HORRIBLE. Both eyes eventually swelled shut and stayed shut for several days.

Amazing that you mention the milk, because that was my old grandmother’s remedy for eye infections, but she used to use regular cows milk.

The problem of pink eye or red eye is caused by those pinhead size flies that are active during the rainy season, especially during times of flood and are attracted to the moisture of the eyes that they drink.

Obtain one of those plastic eye baths, fill with luke warm milk and hold over the affected eye. Very soothing.

Also as a precaution wear sun glasses when out and about during the day when the flies are most active as these help to stop the flies entering the eyes and keep the eyes clean at all times. For those that have children, encourage them to do this as well.
