i have been living in Thailand for about 7 years now, i have been legitimately working in Phuket for the past two years. i have been with my girlfriend(now wife) for almost 2 years and we were married in October we also just had a son a few days ago.

i want to bring the wife and kid back to the US. i want to know how difficult it will be to bring my wife back to the US. She is a good girl and speaks almost fluent English.

i know the embassy requires me to fill out an Affidavit of Support. could a family member fill out this form on her behalf ?

i also wonder the cost of the whole process.

any advice is much appreciated!!!!

First you have to submit forms to the USCIS and pay them around $400 to tell you your wife is not a terrorist. Then you will have to deal with the consulate, pay some more and wait about a year.

Apply for dsc130 form.it s a Request for immigration visa.

Once sent wait for a visa # and visa interview. Take one year.

She need to go see doctor, count 1000$ to 1500$ for visa process and other bs u ll need to pay.

get form at us embassy, they will explain u everything.

Since you have lived in Thailand for over a year and hopefully have the extensions to prove that, along with a lease or something, you can file the I-130 petition at the USCIS office in Bangkok (across from Consulate) and have it approved within a few days. You then file the packet 3 (or 4, not sure these days) with the consulate which includes the support affidavit. I believe family members can be used for support. The application fees probably come to over a thousand USD these days.

Here is a good overview of the process. Pay particular attention to the last sentence of section 1.

If your paperwork is done correctly the first time, the process for someone living in Thailand can be done within a couple a months.

You can do it yourself, but you have to pay attention to the details. There are several forums dedicated to the process. Goggling Visa Journey is a good place to start.

Good luck.

Thaihome is correct about filing directly in Bangkok (versus with USCIS in the States). It will save you several months of processing time. With regards to the I-864 (affidavit of support), you will fill one out, then can also submit a second one with a co-sponsor if you do not meet the financial requirements to petition an immigrant.
