In the beginning Yingluck tried to act as if she was "neutral". Now she (just like thaksin) needs the Reds for her own survival.

The Reds are rising so why would you not tie yourself to them.

They aren't rising, Thaksin just bought them.

The redshirts do not support democracy.

They are terrorist fighting under the guise of freedom fighters.

This problem between the red and yellow shirts will never end, Thailand will never be the same because of one man who destroyed it, and his name is Thaksin Shinawatra.

90% of the people on this board have not followed the series of events since it began, everything is twisted around and pointing in the wrong direction now.

You are assuming it was the right way round before. Democracy, The Thai Army and Thai Politics, are like oil and water. They just won't mix

It has always been a mess but Thaksin has taken it to a completely different level. The man is truly unique.

Well he has well and truly thrown a massive spoke in the status quo, would be a small understatement.

The big difference between the red shirts and the yellow shirts stems from one source.

Education

Some people received a education and others only received one in special schools set up to teach the red shirt description of democracy.

In twelve years the army had control for one year. When they took over Thailand did not have a Prime Minister and their was not one drop of blood was spilled.

Still you want to drag them in as part of the problem.

It was a peaceful take over in which pictures of soldiers receiving flowers from citizens were published.

The Government was turned over to civilian authorities thru an election no blood was spilled. We had three successive Governments brought on through the strict adherence to Thai law.

One man with a lot of money he had stolen from the Thai people recruited a army of poor citizens with very little education paid a lot of money for them to make a illegal armed demonstration in Downtown Bangkok costing over 90 lives. Their demands were met changed their mind and demanded more received it and once again changed their mind and continued with their bloody assault on the Thai government.

And you want to blame it on the army. Get your head out of the dark place it is in and take a look at reality. The red shirts after three consecutive governments stepped in with a bloody terrorist attack to protect democracy [according to Yingluck the sister of the man who caused it all] and then when defeated the next government legally elected as it's three predecessors were took them in and gave a few of their wealthier members jobs in the Government there by leaving the red army leaderless to continue with their what ever idea they thought they were accomplishing. Some of their leaders now deciding to join a legal Government some in hiding in Dubai and Cambodia and some taking the fall in jail.

They make the keystone cops look like Harvard graduates.

It is an advantage for her to speak in butchered english. It means that the majority of Thais AND foreigners can’t understand her, hence, won’t know she only talks crap.

I am wondering if the part where she praises the reds was thrown into the speech (after Thein Sein refused to be Thaksin's pawn) in order to give the Reds some positive attention after they were cheated by their leader.

It could also be possible that it was planned to coincide with Thaksin meeting the reds in Burma.

I'm still trying to grasp how firing RPGs at a temple and a fuel tank farm is protecting democracy. I'm leaving the burning of provincial town halls for another day.

Protecting democracy - it's a bit like burning the Reichstag down. Red shirt or brown shirt - very similar.

They protect democracy in the same way that Mao's Red Guards and Hitler's SA and SS did. You can have as much free speech and democracy as you want - so long as you tow the party line. If you say things we don't like then clearly you are mentally ill and/or a danger to society and the freedoms we cherrish. So sorry, but you must be eradicated.

Interesting choice of venue to make this speach. Indonesia - champion of democracy and human rights? Just ask anyone in East Timor or the Aussie soldiers who saw their behaviour first hand.

You seem to be one of those who do not remember the series of events from the beginning.

The army took over the government because Thaksin would not get out of office and kept postponing his own departure... he was in the process of reappointing the military generals biased to himself in order to gain complete control over the military.

His family also showed up at the airport with 22 suitcases fleeing Thailand. You do not flee if you are innocent. His wife Pojamon (aka Pokemon) later divorced him and changed her last name for paper trail reasons.

Thai citizens were out in droves giving flowers to the soldiers in show of appreciation.

And the Thais that hears her and dont know english thinks her english skills are great.biggrin.png

Yingluck Praises Red Shirts For Protecting Democracy

My big brother, your Dear Leader says thank you to all you sheep for protecting democracy. He knows some of you died but it is not in vain. Someday he will return to Thailand a free man and more importantly he will get his 47 billion Baht back. After this all you will be rich within six months. You can trust my big brother as you know he has never lied to you and he sometimes cries when he thinks how poor you are. Especially when he is shopping in Paris.

There are a couple of points to make. One is not to get hung up about Yingluck's English and two, that in context of her argument for democracy the reds as champions of such are an essential part of the 'story' which she wished to portray. What I did enjoy were the cutaway shots to the Iranian delegation who clearly were uncomfortable with all that talk about democracy and what I also noted was her statement that 'the rule of law is a fundamental of democracy'. It is this statement which Yingluck can make and Thaksin cannot. Thaksin and the reds have a serious problem here. On the one hand the banner reads democracy but the practice contradicts. Time and again. What fatally undermines the operation of this government is that attempts to bring back Thaksin require a fatal undermining of the rule of law. And in a similar way the events of 2010 proclaimed democracy but in practice were committed to the overthrow of the then government. Say one thing and do the opposite. A Thaksin speciality.
