BANGKOK: -- The Pheu Thai Party will meet tomorrow to choose from four nominees - including Sitha Dhivari, Pimchana Hosakul and Sudarat Keyuraphan - its candidate for the Don Muang MP by-election.

Party spokesman Prompong Nopparit said yesterday that the party was not ready to reveal the other potential candidate.

The June 16 by-election will fill the seat vacated by Karun "Keng" Hosakul after he was disqualified by the Supreme Court for defamation in the last general election.

Pheu Thai MP Wicharn Meenchainant, who is in charge of all Bangkok MPs, said he would discuss with other Bangkok MPs about possible candidates before submitting a list for the party to select from.

He confirmed that Sudarat has decided not to contest the by-election, as had been reported in the media, but a source said party leaders would try to convince her to run.

She is now vacationing with her family and close aides on Samui and has refused to give interviews to the media.

She is scheduled to hold a press conference at 1pm today about her plan for religious activities on Visakha Bucha Day. The media expects that she would then have the answer to whether she would accept the request to represent the party in the poll.

Panthongtae Shinawatra, the son of Thaksin, posted a message on his Facebook page saying people who do not know Keng but read about him in newspapers might think that he is a hooligan who engages in wrangling with others. They might not understand why a person like him has always won the hearts of Don Muang constituents and won elections.

If you ask them, they would give the same answer that Keng is a down-to-earth activist who has built up locals' trust for at least 20 years even before he held any post, the message said.

BANGKOK: -- Democrat Party's tentative by-election candidate Tankhun Jitisara yesterday denied he intended to disturb a recent Bangkok community public meeting.

Tankhun is expected to be the Democrat candidate in a by-election for Bangkok's Constituency 2 after Pheu Thai MP Karun Hosakul was disqualified by the Supreme Court for framing Tankhun during the election campaign.

Tankhun said he simply joined a hearing of the Niwet Chaofah community in Don Muang district on Saturday as community residents were discussing how they would spend their development budget.

Tankhun said he was invited by a university lecturer to speak, which he did for 20 minutes, before leaving the meeting room. He was later informed by a phone call from a local resident that Karun's aide, Prawet Wallop, criticised him at the hearing, claiming he had bought support from local residents by distributing free liquor during the Songkran holidays.

Tankhun said he returned to the meeting room and saw Karun sitting with his wife - so he used his mobile phone to take Karun's picture. Karun then said on a microphone that the hearing would fail because Tankhun was present, Tankhun said.

He said Karun and his aides rushed him in an intimidating manner and he begged Karun not to assault him.

"I was not pretending - I was really frightened as I went there alone," Tankhun said.

But Pheu Thai deputy spokesman Anusorn Iamsa-ard said yesterday that Tankhun should not have been to the meeting because he had no business there.

"He violated political etiquette and went there to cause a disturbance. He took other people's pictures in an inappropriate and intimidating manner," Anusorn said.

The spokesman said Tankhun seemed to have mental problems because he suddenly cried out that Karun would assault him, although no one intended to do so.

Anusorn said Tankhun had committed political suicide because of the incident.

Anusorn said the Democrats should urgently summon Tankhun and teach him political etiquette, and not further humiliate his political opponent after Karun had already suffered because of the court's ruling.

Intriguing that Oak Shinawatra is publishing photographs of disqualified PTP MP Karun eating in his underwear, but it is nice that Oak knows the softer, gentler, tender side of Karun.

Tankhun is invited to talk at a meeting, which he does. After he leaves, he finds out that someone at the meeting is apparently telling lies about him, so he returns.

And the PTP supporters there want HIM to be taught about political etiquette???

A video of the incident was posted in another thread. First Karun shouted at Tankhun then he was pursued by a shrieking Redshirt woman. I guess no dissenting voices can be heard in this redshirt stronghold.

Well this thread is not as disturbing as I thought it was going to be. When I read the title and then saw the OP I had a dreadful thought for a moment that Pangthongtae was going to be running for the seat......Pheew!

Even though k. Tankhun is registered in the District of Don Muang and may even be a candidate for the by-elections, obviously a Democrat's party member has no right to be at a public hearing about how money is divided.
