Thai national flag carrier paints rosy business picture

BANGKOK: -- Thai Airways International is confident that this year's operation will be more profitable and that it will score better in various international airline rankings.

Top THAI executives spoke as the national flag carrier marked its 46th anniversary in business. Somchainuk Engtrakul, member of the THAI board of directors said the inauguration of Suvarnabhumi international airport will provide a platform for THAI to fully harness its service potential and that it should propel the national carrier to win even better rankings in the world league of air carriers.

Mr. Somchainuk said rising fuel price poses no threat as the airline has steadily adjusted fuel surcharges which will be applicable to all routes within 60 days.

THAI is likely to enjoy a profitable business year in 2006, potentially more profitable than 2005, as the passenger load remains at a high level and rising fuel costs are being absorbed by fuel surcharges, Mr. Somchainuk indicated.

Last year, the airline earned over Bt162 billion, of which Bt6.7 billion is net profit.

Newly-appointed THAI president Apinan Sumanaseni said his priority is to strengthen the business operations of the national flag carrier.

I'm exploring same. Perhaps your travel dates are not the same as mine, but I have found some more attractive fares. See: http://www.traveltech2000.com/firstbusinessUsCa.asp
