Ubon Ratchathani Airport warns locals not to set off Bang Fai rockets without permission

UBON RATCHATHANI 12 March 2014 (NNT) -- Ubon Ratchathani Airport has warned locals not to launch Bang Fai rockets without permission, as doing so may have dire consequences on aircraft flying in the area.

According to Ubon Ratchathani Airport Director, Nisit Sombat, there have been a number of cases, in which locals in Ubon Rachathani, Sisaket, Yasothon, Amnat Charoen and other provinces reportedly launched Bang Fai rockets and floated sky lanterns during festivals. Although doing so is part of local tradition, it is dangerous to airplanes flying in the area.

For safety concerns, the Director has warned locals to refrain from launching any Bang Fai rockets or other materials into the airspace, as it could cause serious accidents.

Moreover, those who launch objects into the air that obstruct or hinder airspace and cause danger to the airport’s operation are subjected to criminal charges under Section 232 of the criminal code, punishable by to up to 7 years in prison.

However, should locals wish to celebrate a festive season with their traditional Bang Fai rockets, they are advised to call Ubon Rachathani airport authorities at 045-245612-4 first to ask for permission to do so in order to prevent any damage that may occur, added Nisit.

I almost wet my pants when reading that. Please, how can you tell all the guys from Rasi Salai, Sisaket province all the way to Kantharalak, then to Buri Ram, finally to Yasothon, that they're not allowed to do what they know best.( Or the only thing they can do)

Morlam, Lao Khao and Bang Fai. Don't need more. Aeeh and Somtham with fermented fishy things in it.

Would only work if Thaksin would go from province to province and pay them for not to do it. Arrai Waa?-facepalm.gif

Moreover, those who launch objects into the air that obstruct or hinder airspace and cause danger to the airport’s operation are subjected to criminal charges under Section 232 of the criminal code, punishable by to up to 7 years in prison.

Or a fine of 500 baht. Or both. Or none of both.
