webfact
BMA prepares for flooding during the wet seasonBANGKOK, 26 June 2014 (NNT) – The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is gearing up for flooding during the rainy season.Deputy Bangkok governor Amorn Kitchawengkul held a meeting with BMA officials to discuss master plans to prevent annual flooding this year.So far, nearly 70 percent of sewage pipes in Bangkok have been dredged and most waterways have been cleared of weeds and waste. The BMA will also secure 2 million more sandbags in a bid to create barriers in flooded areas.Water pumps will be installed at 20 locations on major roads, with surveillance teams patrolling the areas around the clock. A total of 1,601 pumps will be installed across the capital. Officials have also been inspecting water levels at sluice gates in flood-prone areas. The Meteorological Department has earlier said that a major flood will not occur this year, as the volume of rainfall will not be as high as the years before.-- NNT 2014-06-

lee b
Well if it happens like the last one, better stock up and food, water and other things. The shelfs were empty in many places as deliveries could not get into the city center. Villa market did not have any bottled water for ages! gcdhar
It will not be wise to depend on "expected low rain" but to prepare Bangkok to face devastating flood. Sent from my SM-N900 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

How does one in anyway contradict the other? The above article references your link. Bangkok and Thailand as much of SE Asia is prone to flooding during the Monsoon season and every year (possibly more than once) they need to clean the sewers and take precautions to limit the flooding even when there isn't unusually higher amounts of rainfall. webfact
BMA braces for rainy seasonThe Nation BANGKOK: -- To prepare for the rainy season, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has checked progress on the dredging of canals and sewer mains, requisitioning of sandbags and installing of pumps. The BMA also instructed all 50 district offices to gather information on canal encroachment and report back before July 15 to make way for the city and agencies' efforts to solve this chronic problem. As of yesterday, 2,597 kilometres of pipes had been cleaned compared with the target of 3,834km, while water hyacinths were removed from 986km of waterways out of the target of 1,225km.After the purchase of 2 million sandbags, the city will have 5.7 million. The city also installed 1,013 pumps and kept some 500 pumps as backups.Deputy city clerk Sanya Cheenimit said City Hall recently proposed to the National Council for Peace and Order the dredging of nine canals to prevent flooding. They were the Lat Phrao, Premprachakorn, Bang Khen, Samwa, Lat Bua Khao Temple, Bang Sue, Prawet Burirom, Phra Khanong and Praya Ratchamontri canals.Source: http://www.nationmultimedia.com/national/BMA-braces-for-rainy-season-30237219.html-- The Nation 2014-06-

I think the fact that first they say there won't be any major flooding then a couple days later warn of flooding, is the contradiction? As for you feeling inferior, never mind you'll get over it? Seriously though, it is just a joke how various ministries continually make statements only for then to be contradicted or proven wrong. Such as when TAT talk about tourism! I think the joke or what is funny (actually sad) is how some look so desperately to show faux superiority that they can't even see it when pointed out. Unless you are completely ignorant to Bangkok, roads flood every single year during heavy monsoon rains ... has absolutely nothing to do with the fact they don't expect unusually heavy rainfall this year that would lead to severe flooding as opposed to roads being flooded for an hour or two during heavy rains which can be helped by making sure the the sewers are clear.
