camera problems on samsung galaxy ace 4 -android 4.4.2

Featured Replies

Anyone run into any problems with camera on samsung galaxy ace 4 running android 4.4.2? work arounds?

Most videos and pics come out upside down.

I put phone in vertical mode and photo in viewer looks ok but when I download it, photo come out sideways.

I know I can fix these problems post-download- i.e. put video in adobe premier and rotate but I don't want to go to that trouble.

The phone will not take any android version higher than 4.4.2 -at least for now.

I have done all the upgrades.

I have been to the samsung shop (waste of time). They said sorry go to service centre.

Tried to return the phone-only bought it 3 weeks ago. They said- sorry- 7 days for return only.

I have searched forums online .There does not seem to be a lot in English on this phone- probably cause it's made in vietnam and only sold in this area of the world. however, this problem does seem to be common with certain samsung models.

Ror photos and video turning phone so that volume is facing down seems to help but the vertical is still a problem.

Suggestions please- (helpful ones?) i.e. not- buy a new phone or you get what you pay for.

kha.

Are you running OEM Samsung firmware, or a 'custom ROM'?

Are the phones position sensors working?

The phone software reads the position sensors to determine the orientation for saving an image.

thanks for you reply.

answer: Running oem not custom.

question: where will I find sensors?

I have already selected auto rotate screen but only some things auto-rotate. e.g., camera rotates (or pretends to since once I download I see it has not actually rotated.)

the phone rotates but the main apps page does NOT rotate i.e.- icons stay facing vertical but when I click on an icon I get the rotation.

The APPS on the 'Launcher' may or may not rotate, depending on the features the OEM put in the launcher. Not an issue if the launcher doesn't rotate (though check the 'menu' options if you really want to see if it does have the feature and it's just disable). A lot of 'replacement launchers' have a rotate option.

Position Sensors are part of the chipset in most all mobile phones, and are used to adjust to the user's orientation.

Apps that show images, movies, or live stream shows will read the position sensors and display the output based on user's horizon. Games will use the sensor as input in motion-based game apps. The sensors especially come into play when using the built-in cameras. As the camera electronics are fixed, the software uses the position sensors to measure where 'horizon' should be and electronically flip the x-y of the image as required so the horizon is always flat and people are always (usually) the right way up.

So... what happens if you purposely put the phone upside-down and take a picture? Does the picture then display right-side up? Same with video? Social media apps like LINE, are the pics or videos displayed upside down to you?

If so, I'm wondering if a '180° flip image' option was set in the camera software or somewhere.

If I purposely put the phone upside-down and take a photo, the photo then displays correctly as does video.

The problem is when I open on my computer or anyone's computer (same problem at samsung store) is that often the videos and photos are upside down.

I found a workaround for that online (seems to be a common problems with some samsungs). The workaround said when turning camera on its side make sure the volume controls are on the bottom. If I do that then the images come out correctly when downloaded.

but if I take a vertical photo -(looks normal on camera screen) I get a sideways photo on my computer which I must then rotate and resave to view in its normal position.

I went to samsung service on silom road today. serviceman took a photo with my camera- put it into another samsung device and said- it's working fine- no problem.

"please put it in a pc," I said. Then he saw the problem.

His conclusion was that the problem is not unique to my phone but to all sumsung galaxy ace 4 phones.

wait a few months for the software upgrade, he said.

end of story.

I did search online before I bought this phone to see if there were problems- oddly enough I did not come acrossany mention of this bug with the camera.

I should have tried out the camera in the first 7 days during which time I could have returned it.

Buyer beware.
