Replacing AIS simcard with a new micro sim keeping the same number and balance

Featured Replies

Hi

I went to the AIS shop yesterday in central rama9 to register my SIM and also swap it for a microsim from a full size sim, keeping the same number.

The lady did not speak english and I stuggled to understand how long it will be until the new sim is activated, she seemed to say I did not have to do anything and, it would activate automatically.

Currently I have my old full size sim working in my old phone, and the new sim is in the new phone enabled in the phone software but with no siginal.

Could anyone advise me on how long it will take to swap over, and if I need to action anything?

Many thanks

She should have activated immediately and destroyed the old full size sim, at least that's what AIS did with me and checked the micro sim worked before I left the shop. I suggest you go to a different Televis shop or a main AIS outlet.

^ Concur. That's the way how it works. New SIM activated and old SIM deactivated.

I would call 1175 and speak to them. AFAIK the new one will not be activated until the first has been deactivated. This is usually instant (deactivation) and within 10 minutes (activation of new SIM)

Called 1175 and they were very helpful.

it turned out that my new SIM was upgraded to 3G which I also requested, however this took a few days.

The old SIM was dead this morning and turned my new phone on with the new micro sim inside and it came alive, including 3G.

I have activated a 3G plan by entering *777*984# as the suggestion of the call centre.

It would have been better for me to get the new SIM activated in the AIS shop immediately as a 2G micro sim, and wait for that sim to be upgraded to 3G but I am all good now so no worries.

many thanks for your help and suggestions

cheers

For future reference also note that most phone shops carry a sim 'cutting tool' that will cut down an existing sim into Micro Sim format, ready to go.

I have used a SIM cutter, I did have one but managed to lose it but I have had problems with a UK sim where the sim stopped working a few days after being cut.

It is a good call for a throwaway sim but my main AIS number is linked to my K-Bank etc so I did not want to risk it, also I had to register the number anyway under the new Thai rules.

Glad it worked out for you.

When I have issues with AIS I have always been able to get satisfaction by working my way up the food chain from 1175 to the corporate offices.

Then again I have had the same number and been a Serenade member for 12 years.
