Vacation home seized at Thap Lan National Park

Wiroj said he suspects a well-known engineer in Bangkok is the true owner of the home

Does this mean no land title or deed was registered? No building permit was issued?

This suspected owner is either really stupid or it exemplifies the depth of corruption.

and again no names are provided because of these stupid libel laws or just to protect the powerful corrupt individuals?

BUT the land is being confiscated and that is major progress from when nothing was done. Given that the park has already reclaimed 100 illegal land plots, to continue to build on an illegal plot is just plain stupid.

In these issues where encroachment of National Parks is suspected, do the management of these Parks not know where their boundary's are ?

I have read about "Park Rangers" many times and presume that these are patrolling guardians in these regions and suspect they would notice if a building was being constructed within the boundary's of the park ? Usually we hear about such development many years after establishment.

Do any of the Park administrators ever get taken before the Court for the corruption that is obviously involved, or do they only get moved to "inactive post's?

I wonder when all those properties on Koh Tao and other islands in Surat Thani that are encroaching on the beach will be demolished? ?

Good question. Powerful people around and now since the island has a top rating for popularity it's likely even less will be done.

Having looked at that park on Google Earth it could well be that 445 is a conservative number when it comes to encroachment by resorts, plantations and flash houses.

Strange that this has never been mentioned before, possibly many of the encroachers are those who were immune from investigation in the past.

Yes Robbie, there are literally thousands upon thousands of illegally build resorts and homes in Thailand especially around National Parks... But the corruption runs so deep..! But this is Thailand and belongs to the Hi Sos .. Nothing really will ever happen... The authorities should grant Immunity from prosecution to all present and ex land office clerks, and perhaps offer a small reward for information on false title deeds... watch the bottles fall........... w00t.gif

Does it really matter to you who they are? If the names were published would yo be any the wiser as to who they are?

Provided that if they are found guilty and punished according to the law it makes no difference who they are.

The owner must be more than a little stupid, going ahead with construction in the present climate of seizing public lands back and demolishing buildings.

Weird really.

arrogant! I guess you don't know any of these people. They truly believe they can do everything and any problem can be fixed by a phone call of their secretary....

That's all very well said and done Bild, but let me ask you how high a profile is being made on the encroaching of lands and beaches in Surat Thani ?

I'm all for fairness, do you recall a certain PM stating he was going to send the army in to clean up the mafias on Koh Tao and almost a year later there has been no change to that? Don't think the army ever showed up, just like the 400,000 Chinese for songkran, just figments of people's imaginations
