webfact
Air Force cancels flight to Nepal today due to airport congestionBANGKOK: -- The Royal Thai Air Force has cancelled its earlier planned flight with relief aids to Nepal today after it was informed of heavy traffic at the Kathmandu international airport.Air Force spokesman ACM Monthon Satchukorn said the Air Force planned to fly a C130 transport plane to Nepal today with relief aids at 8 am from the Sixth Wing airfield at Don Mueang. But it was informed by the Kathmandu airport officials to put off the flight as the airport was congested with relief flights making it inconvenient to land at the time of arrival. He said the Air Force then has to either put off or cancel the flight today until it is notified again of the landing permission. However the Air Force will stand by the transport plane and is ready to take off as soon as it is notified again of the permission. He said the Air Force will consider flying again tomorrow if it has permission confirmed by the Kathmandu airport. The relief aids on the plane include survival kits from Princess Ubolratana, tents and outdoor chairs from the prime minister, drinking water, canned food, blankets, medical supplies, saline water, and water purifiers. The spokesman also said the transport plane will also fly back stranded Thais on its return trip if the Thai Embassy requests to bring those wanted to return homes.Source: http://englishnews.thaipbs.or.th/air-force-cancels-flight-to-nepal-today-due-to-airport-congestion -- Thai PBS 2015-04-

Stargeezr
TIA or Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu has a single runway, seethe photos included. There is a nice terminal there, but it is full and is very hecticnow. I have seen many complaints in the local Canadian media as well, because of the peopletrying to get out of Kathmandu because either they are, tourists, mountain climbers, hikersetc. , from others countries, or locals who are worried of disease or are just trying to getto another part of the country or the world. Patience is very important right now, so for those whohave family or friends there and, it would be wise to remember the situation. Worst earthquake in 80years! Damage all over the country, and not just at Kathmandu itself. As I have stated insome comment sections of the local on line services, relax and let the people who aretrained to rescue others, go to Nepal and help out. If you are there, just be glad that youare alive, and are able to get out of there eventually and go home. Think of the poor peopleof Nepal, who are not so lucky and can not go anywhere!Stargeezer
