bow
People used to say that you should change to $ and not use thai baht when buying a Laos visa because it costs much more to use baht. What is the situation like today ? i could add that I have bought Laos visas two times recently. First time I payed 2.000, the second time 1500. Both in the Mukhdahan / Sawannakhet crossing. Yes, not same
ubonjoe
It is $30 to $42 dependent upon nationality or 1500 baht. On weekends and after normal working hours they will charge an overtime fee of $1. In baht it is often 100 baht. You need to have the correct amount or they may make it difficult. thai006
30 dollars last week i pay 1070b for have 30d much better than 1500b
TommyTucker
$30 is cheaper. Also make sure you have ultra crisp notes, preferably 3 x $10. As with Thailand they get very fussy if any of the notes are creased, written on, torn or otherwise damaged.
kingalfred
It was 20$ bill . When did it go up?
ubonjoe
It was 20$ bill . When did it go up? If you are form China it is $20. It has been the same for many years. When I did my first crossing back in 2002 I think it was the same. I paid 1500 baht then but that was real close to the $35 it would of cost me back then.

Petchabun Man
You will pay much more in Thai baht. If you use U.S. dollars make sure they are new. If they refuse at the border hide your Thai baht and tell them all you have is 1000 baht or $35 American dollars. Tell them the choice is yours.
asdecas
You'll save the equivalent of 2-300 Baht, depending on your nationality, by presenting USD at the border, but make sure the notes are in decent condition.
aripengu
Still much better to pay in USD, just went two weeks ago, visa on arrival fee varies depending on nationality, I usually just take 50 USD and spend the rest in Laos as they accept them everywhere. I would have thought the choice is theirs - it is their country. So what are you going to do if they refuse entry?
