Thai tennis player gets 18-month ban for betting on matches

LONDON (AP) — A Thai tennis player has been banned 18 months and fined $5,000 for betting on the sport.

The sanction was announced Wednesday by the Tennis Integrity Unit.

The tennis body says Jatuporn Nalamphun admitted to betting on matches between July and November 2014.

It says Nalamphun "contested, but was found guilty of a further charge of failing to cooperate with a TIU Investigation."

The ATP website shows the 22-year-old Nalamphun has never been ranked and has career earnings of $682.

So he admitted the charge of betting to the TIU, but was found guilty of failing to cooperate with them.

Hmm, something's missing here...

Nothing's missing, he was found guilty of two charges, one of betting and the other of failing to cooperate with the TIU.

He didn't admit to the charges. He contested them which means he fought them and my guess is he gave the TIU false information which led to the second charge Edited by thesetat2013

Wow! He has won a whopping $682 and fined $5000. I guess he thought he was playing Thai tennis.

With his earnings so low it's no wonder he bet on his own games.

Apart from you, who said he was bettting on his own games?

An assumption on my part. However, with such a small winnings he should have been betting on his games with him as the loser

Could not disagree with you more.

If he pled guilty that is about as cooperative as you can get.

Why then was he found guilty of not cooperating? And in relation to what?

Can't be about his betting, he admitted that.

The first line of my quote from the story says he did.
