There is a state run emergency service in Thailand as well as a volunteer rescue service (like most countries) and it is controlled by the government ambulance service and is reasonably effective for a developing country.

Not really volunteer, using that word is disingenuous. You don't pay, but the hospital will for bringing a "customer" to them. Plenty of stories of these so called ambulance gangs fighting to volunteer their services to you.

As they are paid by hospitals they have a habit of avoiding the nearest hospital, and would rather take you to the one that pays them the most.

So, does that sound like volunteer rescue services to you?!

...they should at least be obliged to have vehicles long enough to accommodate a body without inflicting more damage...

...and some would argue a video stream.....

...when groups of rescuers battle each other .......one has to question whether their motives are really humanitarian....

These ambulance chasing filth should be made illegal ASAP, half the time they do more damage than good and probably have little or no training in how to move a body to prevent further damage....

Not to mention the petty thieving of iPhones, cash from wallets etc.....

And the final straw, obviously would have to be driving past one hospital with a patient losing blood to get to another that pays them 500thb more....
