Same Benefits Without A Work Permit?

Hope this is the correct forum for my question.

A holder of a work permit can easily open a bank account in Thailand,

have a cell phone registered in its name and receive maybe some other "benefit"

I don't know about.

Let me ask this question. Do the same benefits apply to the holder

of a retirement, marriage or child support visa (+ extension)?

Open a bank account without a work permit seems to be almost impossible!

You can not register a cell phone in your name unless you have a wp. A non immigrant visa or extension of stay will allow you to apply for a Thai Drivers License.

I have accounts with three Thai banks, all opened without a work permit !

I have two cellphones registered in my name. Both registered without a work permit !

Why would a bank prefer an english teacher or timeshare tart trying to eke out

an existence rather than an affluent retiree living in his 10m beachside villa ?

We never claimed there is any logic in these rules.

Down here in Malaysia I have a motorcycle regisered in my name, but cannot get a local driving licence.

I use my Thai Licence, with a certified translation from the embassy.
