KOH SAMUI: -- The Australian Government has appointed Heather Reid as its new Honorary Consul resident in Koh Samui, with jurisdiction throughout Surat Thani. Nearly nine hundred thousand Australians visit Thailand every year with many holidaying in Koh Samui and the surrounding islands,” said a release from the Australian Embassy in Bangkok. “Ms Reid’s appointment will help the Australian Government to continue delivering high-quality consular services to Australians in Koh Samui and the province of Surat Thani,” the release said. Australia and Thailand have a strong relationship based on shared interests and strong people-to-people links. The two countries work closely together in regional and international forums, and on a range of important issues including defence, law enforcement, counter-terrorism, and combating people smuggling and human trafficking. Torrens54 Posted August 29, 2016 Share Posted August 29, 2016 WHY ? Hon Consuls used to be able to sign/stamp and verify documents such as Australian Marriage Certificates.. NOT ANY MORE ! Now under the latest Regulations (3,000572, 222)...changeable every 5 minutes... It MUST be done by the Australian EMBASSY either in BKK, or on an "Outreach" Visit to wherever YOU may be.
