PM appeals for chance for authorities to perform their duties

BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha on Tuesday appealed to government critics and members of the public to give a chance for authorities to do their job and to allow judicial process to run its course before making the criticism.

He made the above statement, apparently, in reference to the incident in Chiang Mai last week when the son of an army general was badly beaten up allegedly by guards of an actress at a pub belonging to a so-called “hi-so” figure in the northern capital.

The prime minister said that the government had treated influential criminal figures as a national agenda and had been doing its best to deal with the problem in accordance with the letters of the law without bias or discrimination.

2.5 years later and various institutions under government authority seem to have changed little. Stomp on a kid's head, walk away free. Kill a couple college students with your car, walk away free. Murders pinned on foreigners, for a Thai could never do that. Saddened by the ongoing same same in critical sectors of Thai society unaddressed by this so-called government.

2 and a half years of wielding absolute power yet the govt couldn't find their @$$es with both hands seemingly, no reforms have been set in motion, scandals are regular as ever, injustice is ever present & some of the country's biggest golden geese are slowly having the life choked out of them.

His outfit actually started pretty promisingly, but it rapidly decended to complete farce where it now sits firmly

But Prayuth has become personally involved in the bashing case in Chiangmai.  Warrants have been issued for the restaurant owner and security guys. The son of one of his junta guys was bashed by those people from up north.  He acted with lightening speed on this one.

However he and his pals want nothing to do with the Abbott's case and have made it clear they won'r meddle and are happy to leave to the relevant agencies.

There's cases and then there's hot potatoes that are best left alone because of PR implications.

I will give you a chance. You have till 5 pm this afternoon to arrest Phra Dhammachayo. If not, as my old favourite play station game [Red Alert] used to say to me, " your mission is a failure".

But why should you get so many chances? Why do you go after some so quickly and without prejudice, but you procrastinate going after others who commit crimes?

The criminal monk who has stolen millions if not billions from the Thai people. He's still a free man.

The step dad who whacked his 5 year old step son and then stomped on him? He was asked to come in when there should have been a manhunt straight away.

But as for the army guy's son in Chiang Mai, the wheels of justice are turning extremely quickly. If there's going to be no consistency, I'd rather you go after child beaters, etc with such vigour first, and let the police deal with people who attack army personnel's children in the normal way. You can intervene later if you get complaints or feel the case is going slowly.

Places like facebook are a great place to see how people really feel. And I guess that's why there are such strong laws against what you can write on these kind of sites.

You cant have your cake and eat it.

Please give us a chance,  Guilt is guilt and must be punished,  we will go after them without predjudice.

So why not apply that line of policy to your brother? why not to your brother's son? or your brothers wife? or you government officials going on 21 million baht holiday's too Hawaii?  Without bias, huh,  what a joke...

"He acted with lightening speed on this one."  It was an army buddy? That could be a reason? :whistling:  Selective justice as always.

C'mon, get real!

Selective enforcement, for sure, but justice? Justice is extinct or nearly so in all countries.

What is the little general thinking by admitting that authorities are not doing their job? Then he takes a page from the Clinton/Obama playbook and blames it on others.

Also following in the footsteps of a recent Police spokesman? :post-4641-1156693976:

Because please everybody knows that the only reason the government cannot do its job is because of the critics and the public...

So please please pretty please, gimme gimme gimme a chance :)

Less appealing and more doing things properly doesn't seem to be on the agenda yet, maybe in 2018...
