GLO to increase lottery tickets to 71 million in February

BANGKOK, 29 December 2016 (NNT) - The Government Lottery Office (GLO) is planning to increase the number of lottery tickets to 71 million from January 17th to February 16th to ensure sufficient amount for small retailers.

GLO Director Maj Gen Chalongrat Nark-arthit said the number of available lottery tickets will be increased from 65 million to 68 million tickets from January 17th to February 1st. The GLO will continue to print more tickets until the number reaches 71 million before the winning numbers are announced on February 16th.

85% of the lottery tickets will be sold to lottery vendors while the remaining will go to charitable organizations. The GLO will also postpone its lottery ticket reservation date from January 3rd to January 5th as bank services usually become unavailable when a large number of lottery vendors turn up to buy the tickets at the banks.

The rescheduling will allow regular bank clients to use the services which are expected to be particularly busy during New Year celebrations. The GLO Director said; however, that the number of the lottery tickets will be reduced later to restore balance in the market.

He claimed the move to increase the tickets was to ensure that small vendors have the same access to the lottery tickets as major retailers, adding that it was not to encourage people to spend more money betting on the winning numbers.
