anyone else experiencing problem with their krungsri debit card?

Recommended Posts

So I opened an account and they have me a debit jad Hai card, the card was super slow. As in I had to wait up to a couple minutes to have the card back everytime I make a withdrawal at their very own krungsri ATM machine. Card eventually got eaten by their machine after just a month or two, no problem, they issued a new card to me for free.

The new card worked fine until it didn't. Suddenly decided not to work while I was in Singapore and Bali. Called a bunch of times, Customer service informed me that my account and everything is fine, overseas usage is still enabled..etc. Note that the very same card has worked in the same countries before. Now it just wouldn't let me use it for purchase nor cash withdrawal.

Just got back to thailand, figured there's a chip failure or something, card worked for a day or two, then it doesn't. Made it down to the account opening branch, they told me everything is okay, I asked for a new card since this card doesn't work, they said I have to call customer service, only they have the authority to waive card issuance fee. Fine. Called and talked to a lady for 30 minutes who understands that "You want a new card but don't want to pay for the fee ", well that is correct because this card doesn't work. "I understand your point but you have to pay for the fee if you want a new card"

Is this ridiculous or am I just being difficult?! This is a card that, used to work fine until it doesn't. 130baht is nothing but it's not even about the money at this point.

I had this happen once, albeit at BBL.. but I went to my branch and asked the CSR to accompany me outside to the external ATM where she could see the error for herself, in realtime and see that there were no "user" errors. The destroyed the old card and issued a new one on the spot and fee-free.

While this was a BBL, I just suggest it as one possible course of action.

Good idea, go at your emitting branch and take the customer service lady outside to see for herself that the ATM card does not function properly. Then they should give you a new card free.

Note: be sure to try your  ATM card before you go-in to be sure it is still defective.

NOTE 2. I had an ATM card with Krungsri for more than 20 years. Never had a problem but I still have an old card with no chips.

If your card works in some machines and doesn't work in other ones, the problem might come from the machine...

Probable reasons why it doesn't work:

  • your card is electro statically charged --> wrapping the card in a plastic bag and then swiping it could help.
  • the place or the wallet where you store your card is magnetic --> change place/wallet. Don't keep your card near your mobile phone...
  • the magnetic strip or the chip are not 100% clean (fingerprint) --> cleaning them with a piece of fabric might work.
  • the reader in the machine is dirty and not sensitive enough --> try another machine.

My Krungsri Visa debit card is 4 years old, I usually made about a withdrawal per week, it still works perfectly even if it looks a little worn out

 Never had problems with it.

Had issues using the BAY card in the UK a few years ago. My wife's card, so she called them (when they were open) but couldn't get any sense from them. Couldn't get any more sense when we freturned, so she closed the account.

But then I've had an issue with KKB before, and that one usually works overseas. When I came back, they, too, told me that the card should have been working as normal. It did as a debit card, even showing me my balance by SMS; it was an ATM withdrawal that proved problematic.

Thanks. I tried all that and today at the super market at EmQuartier, they had to tried 4 different CC processing machine for the krungsri card to finally work. While I was overseas I tried at least 20+ ATM machines from different banks in 3 different countries with no luck. Now Bangkok Bank ATM wouldn't take this card, either. And this card seems to only work on Krungsri ATMs, overall a nightmare.

If they wont give you what you have already paid for, a functioning card, then take your business elsewhere.

Yeah the card works at krungsri's own machines but I travel frequently and spend 50% of my time outside of Thailand so I'm guessing closing this POS account is the answer. I actually just switched from Siam Commercial to Krungsri last year because the SCB debit card works terribly in the US. Any debit card that works well outside of Thailand?

The chipcard seems to be the problem here, I have a non-chip card from standard chartered Thailand that works fine, but I'm always a little nervous when I travel and prefer to have a second option just in case I lose my wallet or something goes wrong.

I had to replace mine several times; once even before leaving the bank when I picked up a new one and tested it with the staff before leaving. There was or is something faulty with the magnetic strips that Krungsri is using.

This. This is exactly what I wanted to know. The customer service ladies as well as bank tellers kept telling me it is impossible for the chip card to have problems and that they *NEVER* had any problem with their cards before. I knew they were full of sh*t!

Right, I only used my krungsri card in Thailand and yes most of the time in their ATM, in ay other country I used a HSBC premier card, by the way I have a Krungsri account because when HSBC decided to leave Thailand they sold the assets to Krungsri.

I would have the same nervousness with only one credit card, I have a second HSBC card in case, I almost never ever used it since it is on the same account. It happened to me in the past that a card decides not to work any longer,  should it be on the motorway....help, or an ATM could decide to digest one's card for no reason.
