Public health minister begs public not to unnecessary jam hotlines

BANGKOK: -- Public Health Minister Mongkol Na Songkhla Saturday told the public not to unnecessary jam the public health hotline, saying over 1,000 calls were made to tease or harass officials on Thursday and Friday.

He said the 1669 hotline should be reserved only for urgency calls to alert officials to rush out to try to save life.

He said 1,159 calls were made, mostly by children, to the hotline just for fun on Thursday and Friday, the two first days of the seven-day period under close monitoring for road accidents during the New Year holidays.

Some of the calls were hoax alerts of accidents, some were made to tease officials and some to sexually harass female officials.

With the level of technology, doesn't that hotline have "caller ID" so that the calls can be traced, and perhaps some children be taught a little lesson when the Boys In Brown knock at the door?

My exact humble view. There should be some method to identify the caller and definitely punish for fooling with essential services.
