You don't "turn yourself in" to immigration. You go through the departures process, and as part of that you receive your fine and blacklist. Trying to do anything before that means you're likely to get arrested.

I don't think I have every read a UK news article about a predator who sexually exploits children in which they plead guilty. It must happen, I just never seem to read about it. They always deny it. I suppose a few that are charged are innocent but the bar for taking a case to trial is so high that the evidence has to be very strong. There may be some more who convince themselves they are innocent. But nobody ever pleads guilty. I suppose it is the taboo nature of the crime. Even when the evidence is overwhelming, the perpetrator will not admit their guilt (and save the victim the ordeal of a trial).

I doubt that the airline is responsible. Luggage is handled by ground services.
