Monastery Stabbing Horror Leaves Three Priests Critical

A Ukrainian man has been arrested by Polish police after a stabbing at a monastery in Jarosław left five people injured, including three priests, authorities said.

The attack took place at about 9.30am on the grounds of the Jarosław Abbey in the south-eastern town of Jarosław. Police said the suspect, a 31-year-old Ukrainian citizen, stabbed four men and one woman.

Officers responded to the incident at the monastery shortly after it happened, and the suspect was taken into custody. Police said they were working to establish the full circumstances of the attack.

Injuries And Hospital Treatment

Three of the priests were reported to be in a life-threatening condition and have been taken to hospital. The other injured people also received medical attention, with the total number of those hurt standing at five.

Police did not provide further details about the condition of the remaining victims.

Police Investigation Under Way

Police were on the scene investigating, including interviewing witnesses and carrying out an inspection, according to Staff Sergeant Anna Długosz. She said investigators were determining all the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Authorities said they would continue inquiries and gather information from those present at the monastery at the time of the attack.

Local Precautions In Jarosław

Jarosław mayor Marcin Nazarewicz said schools in the town had been advised not to allow children to go outside. He added that local crisis management officials had informed schools, offices and parishes following the incident.

The mayor said the guidance was intended to encourage people to be more vigilant about who enters buildings.

Police said the investigation was ongoing and that they would not comment on possible motives while inquiries were underway.
