Happens every year in Texas, people and vehicles swept away in flooded creeks over roads when they think they can cross them. A foot and a half of moving water can wash a truck away, a foot a car. Less than a foot can knock an adult off their feet. People drive around signs telling them not to enter and they find them a week later downstream.

Well, you have to ask about why they were just casually walking down a completely flood road where you can't see or know where it falls off into something else. "Misadventure" is putting mildly... and the mates of the unlucky guy that got swept away just did a runner. You have to wonder how much alcohol was involved here.

Pattaya rescuers search canal for missing man

Rescue teams in Pattaya are continuing to search for a man swept into a fast-flowing canal after heavy rain flooded roads in Nong Prue, Bang Lamung, on 24 September 2026.

Three foreign men had been travelling by Bolt from the Walking Street area of South Pattaya towards Wat Boonsamphan Soi 9, also known as Khao Noi, when flooding made their route impassable.

Two men fell into floodwater

At about 04.49am, the group left the car and attempted to continue on foot through floodwater near Ta-Yai Bridge on Noen Plub Wan Road, near Map Yai Lia Soi 45.

Two of the men then fell into Ta-Yai canal, where water was running strongly following overnight downpours. One man managed to get out, but the second was carried away in front of his friends and local witnesses.

The third member of the group did not fall into the canal. Police, rescue workers, local administration officials and Nong Prue patrol officers were sent to the scene, while investigators began checking CCTV footage and videos provided by witnesses.

Search covers more than three kilometres

At 10.30am, Bang Lamung district chief Anusak Piriyom joined Suttipong Boonmachai, head of the water-rescue unit at the Sawang Boriboon Pattaya Foundation, Nong Prue municipal engineers and Nong Prue police to plan the search.

Officials examined the canal route from where the man fell to its outlet connecting with Na Kluea canal, a distance of more than three kilometres.

More than 50 personnel from rescue services, police, district officials and Nong Prue municipality remained involved in the operation.

Searchers located only black and white Nike trainers, believed to belong to the missing man, caught in grass close to where he entered the water.

Strong current complicates rescue work

The search has been made difficult by the continuing strong current in places, caused by the heavy rain overnight. Parts of the canal also run beneath roads, creating large drainage tunnels extending for several hundred metres.

Rescue workers must take additional precautions in those sections, where access is limited and conditions are hazardous. The operation was continuing along the waterway at the time of the latest update.

Foreign man still missing after Pattaya canal fall

A foreign man remained missing on 24 September after he was swept away in floodwater while walking with two companions near Ta Yai canal in Pattaya's Nong Prue area.

More than 50 rescuers searched for around 11 hours, but suspended operations at 4pm without finding him. His identity and nationality have not yet been officially confirmed.

The incident happened at about 5am in Soi Noen Plub Wan, Nong Prue, Bang Lamung district, Chon Buri. Three foreign men had reportedly attempted to walk through floodwater before one fell into the canal and was carried away by the current.

The other two men survived and left the area. Police are still trying to locate them for questioning and to confirm the missing man's details.

Search plan changed as water subsided

Chon Buri Governor Narit Niramaiwong visited the canal at 3.30pm to monitor the operation and receive updates from teams who had been working since before dawn.

As the canal water level dropped during the afternoon, rescuers changed their approach. Teams from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Pattaya Rescue Foundation spread out on foot to search more than three kilometres along the canal.

They also checked drainage pipes and tunnels beneath roads, some stretching for several hundred metres. Divers were sent into one deep-water location considered a possible search point, but no trace of the man was found.

Officials temporarily stopped the search at 4pm to review the operation and assess conditions. The governor and relevant agencies were due to meet to decide the next stage of the search.

Ride-hailing driver traced

Police have contacted the app-based taxi driver who had transported the three men shortly before the incident.

The driver said he picked them up in the Walking Street area of South Pattaya and was taking them to a house in Soi Wat Boonsamphan 9, also known as Soi Khao Noi.

During the journey, navigation software suggested an alternative route because of flooding. The vehicle reached Soi Noen Plub Wan but could not continue as water was high and began entering the car, prompting the driver to stop.

The three passengers then got out and continued on foot. The missing man fell into Ta Yai canal about 100 metres from where the vehicle was parked.

Residents told police that, before leaving, one of the surviving men had asked people nearby for a rope and for someone to help his friend in the water.

Could it be the guy decided to swim back to the house and ask his friends to meet him back there?

Horrific way to go , hopefully they at least find a body b4 the monitor lizards wreak havoc on it.
