Teen, 15, Arrested After At Least 11 Shot at Turkish School

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested after at least 11 people were injured in a shooting outside a high school in western Turkey, police and officials said. Two people were left in critical condition after a gunman opened fire before fleeing on Tuesday morning. The incident took place at Inci Uzmez Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in Manisa.

Arrest And Family Detentions

The suspect, who is reportedly a student at the school, was taken into custody following the attack, Turkey’s justice minister Akın Gürlek said.

Gürlek added that the suspect’s mother, father and grandfather had also been detained.

Under Turkish law, the teenager must appear before a court before being officially arrested.

CCTV Shows Suspect With Shotgun

CCTV footage appeared to show the suspect walking through empty streets while checking a shotgun that was clearly visible. In the recording, he was dressed casually and appeared to be moving without urgency.

Other footage later showed the same person running from the scene with the weapon still in his hand.

Police said the motive behind the attack was not immediately clear.

Education Ministry Sends Investigators

The Turkish education ministry said the incident had deeply saddened the nation and the country’s education community. It said three national investigators from the ministry had been sent to Manisa to assess the situation.

The shooting was the third school attack in Turkey this year, as the government continues to consider how to respond to a recent rise in violence.

Earlier Attacks Prompt Security Changes

Turkey has faced public anger after two deadly school shootings in April, which led to new security measures for the 2026-2027 academic year, including tighter controls on guns.

Prior to that April surge, the country had not experienced school shootings.

In one of the April attacks, in Kahramanmaras, a 14-year-old killed nine students aged 10 and 11 and one teacher. The gunman died at the scene.
