  1. Hello everyone,

I am looking to possibly study a degree in thailand in order to advance or rather, begin a career teaching english in thailand.

I have, basically no prior experience as a teacher. I have completed High School here in Australia and I'm really looking for advice from people who may have done similar pathways or just could point me in the right direction.

Would it be best to apply for an International English Course at say, Payap University.. or do a TEFL course and then possibly the degree afterwards?

Or is there another pathway that may be better?

Thankyou and I appreciate any help as I'm really stumped as to what may be the best path.

  2. and I know, I'm young but now I actually have decided I better start making a move towards a career before it's too late. I know yes, I'm young but I haven't really tried and I am not happy with myself at this stage, I really need to start making the right moves towards a career.

  3. ahh, It's nothing great. It's a Certificate III in IT along with CCNA certification. I have been using computers since I was little and it's like second nature to me.

The reason as IT is interesting to me, but it seems more of a hobby then anything. I know you can turn a hobby into work, but I think I want to go down the Oil route as the job interests me, along with the benefits of working so many days on so many off allows for travel in between.

To be totally honest, I am not just looking for Thailand, Asia in general or anywhere international. Right now I'd rather get experience wherever I can and I'd love to do something in another country and learn and build a career while I'm at it, it seems like the way to go to me

  4. well, yeah. I'm serious about starting out as a Roustie or a Roughneck. I have seen the options of becoming a tool pusher or something similar after that. I have read that when you do secure a position somewhere and gain some experience it is a fair bit easier to move on to another job or move within the company to a different position.

  5. all advice so far has been helping me take a step further so no problems there!

I think what I may do is apply for as many jobs as possible, but while learning something that may increase my chances, possibly the safety route as I do see a great amount of safety positions open from what research I have done.

  6. So I should be trying to get a job as a roustabout in Australia but possibly study some related courses in the meantime to increase my chances.

I have applied to jobs internationally as a roustabout, but my chances are unlikely.

I am waiting for the agencies to open in Australia so I can see what my options are via that route.

So a roustie is not a bad route to start out if you aren't skilled?

  7. I am Australian and I'm 19 years of age, so I'm only young. But I don't have any directly related experience having only studied IT and having worked in Customer service.

But If I can't secure such a position I can always start to make the right moves in order to secure it later as I'm not that old either.

    Cheers

  8. That was my belief, that many would be skilled and have been in the industry for some time.

Rustabout and Roughneck positions are unskilled, so I was hoping that maybe someone had some experience with those positions.

I think I will have to just personally email the companies directly. Now to find out which companies do the oil rigs, haha..

  9. Hi there. I have done a little bit of research, but I really just don't know where to apply for such jobs as a rustabout or roughneck on an offshore oil rig? I understand that there are a large contingent of offshore workers residing in Thailand when they aren't working and thought maybe here would be a good place to ask! Cheers

  10. Hello all, I need some advice.

I moved into this apartment on the 8th, and upon inspection it was all neat and tidy.

In the time since, there has been well, basically what I would almost describe as an infestation of bugs.

They are small, brown and have a dark third sector. I'm really not sure what they are.

I have always kept my room tidy and empty my rubbish regularly, but these bugs are a complete nuisence.

Often I'll pick up clothes and unfold them to have bugs crawling throughout. They are everywhere.

On the floors of the bathroom, on the fridge it doesn't matter. When I stay in my room I have the constant feeling of bugs crawling on me and I get very itchy, but when I stay at my friends place there are no such feelings.

I could easily ring the man of the apartment and plan on doing so in the morning, but I feel even that if I do he will just change room and the problem will still exist. Maybe not immediately, but in time.

I'm not really sure what to do. I could cut my loses, but is there anyway to end the contract early and take half or something like that?

It's gotten to the point where I can't sleep properly. I am new to thailand and I'm not really sure what to do in this situation.

I have added photos for inspection and advice.

All advice would be gladly welcomed :)

    hanks

Not sure where, Nanai road would be good, but closer to patong the better. I have looked at phuket gazette and havent had much success. I'm not sure if there are other websites to look at. Thanks
