When I was here 4 months last year I averaged 60.000 bth a month incl hotels, rental cars etc. But I do not drink. Now I live here so things are different, I don't go out much.
As was asked, why do you come for six months? What is your purpose? I supposes your plan is to do more than stay in a condo all the time even if you say you are not interested in ladies?
Sorry, I hope to secure a Job Working as an OPC.
I figure it may take up to 6 months to secure such a position

I'd go out every now and again, not much traveling, avoid the ladies. Probably some shopping, but I'm a buyer who gets buyer's remorse, so I'm wise and careful.
I can live on a small budget.

Hi all,
I was thinking about possibly starting a business in thailand,
dealing with computers / related.
Is that a job that foreigners are allowed to do in thailand?
-
so about 20-25k a month is recommended?

Hi there,
this post may seem a bit vague, but I'll explain what I can.
I plan to come to thailand on tourist visa's for 6 months.
Will I be able to rent a condo based on that?
and, what how much do you recommend I need to survive for 6 months in say, Chiang Mai, where things are slightly on the cheaper scale?
Thankyou. If you have any questions that may be needed in help in helping me out, just ask.
also, I'm not really a big eater/fussy eater and like thai food.
Thanks
-
yeah, Well, I guess I'd have to start searching for a thai friend, hah
I think I understand it pretty well now
-
Hi all, Thanks for all the contributions so far but I'm just having a little bit of trouble fully understanding the visas.
So, I can obtain a multiple entry visa from Perth Australia
and that's 2 x 60 days stay in thailand
Then, each 60 day can be extended in thailand for 1,900baht yes
so equaling a total of 180days
what happens after that, I go over to viantine and obtain another multiple entry tourist visa and do the same?
and then you just continue like that?
Thanks

Hi there,
I'm looking to move to thailand from australia and I'm looking for work, and whatever work I can get.
I speak some thai and very good english.
I have IT experience and have just finished an IT course that gained me a certificate.
I have experience in stock/sales.
I will PM my resume/cover letter if needed.
Thankyou,
Cameron. W

Hi there,
Ive done a forum search but not really been able to find out what I need
I am wondering, whats the likely hood of just flying over, taking a taxi to wherever (in my case, chiang mai / phuket) and looking for a cheap/decent place to stay.
Probably a week at a time, give or take a few days.
and would it generally be cheaper doing it that way? last time I went I prebooked and when I got there, I noticed the prices were different as to quoted on the website and what I had to pay.
and what should I expect to pay for your average 1 bed, fridge toilet type hotel?
Thanks again

Zero, unless you have a work permit.
oh yes, well, I even meant including that, haha. Sorry.
So, you're 19, you speak fluent Thai, and you have a work permit. Where are you from exactly?
I didn't say I had these. I was just setting some goals and working towards these, not nearly all have been achieved as of yet.
Sorry for the misconception.
What is the longest period of time that a tourist can stay?
-
I also wanted to know, I know this isnt that relevant to the original post, but while I have some people with good knowledge here,
what are the possiblities of getting a simple job in thailand? say, something like fast food, or something. Provided I spoke fluent thai and english?
Thanks again

wow, really didnt expect a quick reply! thankyou.
hmm, well, basically. I live in an apartment now.. it's basically a studio type apartment with a bathroom (one big room with a toilet / sink / shower )
I'm not really concerned on the size too much, as long as I can fit a double bed, some drawers, tv, minifridge and a computer table.. it should do, I'm a minimalist, or something like that.
I'm hoping to possibly study in thailand, what? yet I'm not sure. But, I'll figure that out.
If you need anything else, just ask
So a studio apartment, say around 35 sq metres (?), limited cooking facilities and a simple bathroom??
Next question: do you want your studio to be in a nice new apartment block where other farangs live or are you prepared to live in a Thai only block? The difference between the two will possibly include security or a lack of and the associated risk. Also, do you want to be near the entertainment area or are you prepared to travel some distance in order to keep costs low?
On the lower end of the scale you can expect to get away for around Baht 3,000 per month and on the upper end around Baht 15,000 or so. In practice you will likely find something suitable in-between.
Well, yeah. 35 may even be more then I need!
I don't really mind, as I want to get along with locals more then anything. I have a fair knowledge of security, it just depends on if the owner lets me implement such items, (advanced locks, security doors and such)
I'd be happy either way. I wouldn't want to live too far, but not too close, somewhere in between. so as you said, a happy medium should be found
thanks for the advice/help

Hi everyone, been reading this forum for awhile and been working things out,
I've been to thailand a couple of times, and quite a few places and have chosen chiang mai as my starting place
I'm only young, 19 and one of my goals is to live somewhere overseas for a year or two.
In may stays in thailand, chiang mai specifically, I've had trouble finding out the pricing of apartments over there.
I was wondering if anyone had some sort of indication of prices over there, in baht.
it would be very helpful
thankyou
