  1. If you want a Thai school, look at Sankhong school, one of the Tessaban schools or Anuban Chiang Rai. The only way to get a feel is to walk into each one and talk to the principal. I was impressed with the staff at Anuban Chiang Rai and they are opening an English Program in May for 1st graders.

It looks like the Chiang Rai International School is going to be a very Christian school. Take a look at their mission statement:

http://www.chiangrai-internationalschool.c...out/mission.htm Too bad, Chiang Rai really needs a good international school, not another one that is trying to save souls! :)

    Chiang Rai International School

    C - Creativity and Confidence

    R - Responsibility

    I - Integrity

S - Spiritual Growth and Social Awareness

CRIS strives to educate our students, in a loving and caring Christian environtment, to become globally enlightened citizens, who are able to bridge the gap between the East and the West and are ready to welcome the exciting challenges in our Chiang Rai International School.

  2. Op: Agreed everything points to a Bronzeback. The only description (book) I have is for the Painted Bronzeback describes a distinctive black edged cream band that extends all along the length to the jaw.

This snake (pics), the band/line stops 5-6" before the jaw. A web search for the 'Painted' shows the same.

The Elegant Bronzeback does not have this 'line' at all from what I see.

    Guess it's a Painted Bronzeback.

Thanks for the responses. Any yes, he is a fine looking snake.

Here is a website with pictures - http://www.ecologyasia.com/verts/snakes/pa..._bronzeback.htm

  3. There is a guy in Chiang Rai who sells and services Husqvarna lawn mower, tractors and weed wackers named Ian. His phone number is 087-575-2528. I bought a riding mower from him for my 7 rai and it cut my lawn mowing time down from 12 hrs to 2.5 hrs. Have been using the tractor for about a year now and no problems at all.

  4. There is a guy in Chiang Rai who just got the dealership for Husqvarna lawn mowers. I know he has riding tractors as well. His website is huskynorth.biz and his phone is 087-575-2528.

  5. We are looking for a retired professional with a food science background and experience in bringing a food product to market. The work would be as a consultant on a part-time basis. We are in Chiang Rai so we provide RT flight, accommodation and are negotiable re. payment. Please contact Jeff at 089-661-5840 if you are interested. The ideal candidate would have worked with a multinational co. such as Nabisco, Kellogg, Unilever or Nestlé but is not necessary.

  6. Driving S on the Asia Highway, about 5 km S. of Big C, you will see almost all the sois and fields flooded on the east side of the road. The Mae Lao river is full and has overflown in many places. The water is also reaching and sometimes overflowing many bridges. There is also flooding on the east side of the river. The Thais are really doing a great job supporting each other, driving around in big trucks, dropping off food and water for others. If it rains again tonight, Chiang Rai city might finally see some water.

An easy place to view the flooding is on the Thoeng Rd. Drive S on the Asia Highway past Big C. Turn left at the light and look for the windmill on your right (about 2 km.) The bridge near the windmill goes over the Mae Lao.

  7. Thanks Curt,

I was able to do a google search on "Chris Creagh Thailand" and found that he and his girlfriend Oi have a travel agency in Samui called Travel Solutions. His phone number was on the site so I called him and found out he was in England. I talked to Sab, another farang and she said they couldn't give me a link because that is part of their business strategy (they are trying to sell links) but they said they would try to change the offending text. They certainly weren't very apologetic. :o

  8. Take a look at this http://www.lostinthailand.com/thailand-gui...eal-estate.html. Then take a look at this - http://lannarealty.com/faq.php #4. They are the same! I wrote the text for lannarealty.com but I now see it in lostinthailand's website. They copied it directly from me without giving any credit and when I contacted them I got the standard answer "we are looking into it and will get back to you" which they never did. Is there anything I can do?

I notice this isn't an isolated incident - http://www.lostinthailand.com/thailand-gui...chiang-rai.html and http://www.thailand-lawyer.com/land_purphase.html - probably lots more!

(Sorry, title should be copyright not copywrite)

  9. Sorry Lannarealty, but the guidelines of this forum are quite clear concerning direct advertising.

Please check with the advertising department about the conditions.

As I wrote before: There is a thin line between giving information and advertising.

    It should not be overseen.

Good luck with your business anyhow.

    Limbo, strict but just.

  10. Chiang Rai City center has seen no flooding this year, only the countryside. There is a new drainage canal north of the city and it has effectively kept the flood waters away. However 20-30 km outside the city you can see flooded fields and in some places flooded roads. It certainly isn't as serious as CM and the weather has been warm and sunny for the last 2 days so things are drying quickly.

  11. Khom Loy, an NGO does some work with water filters and sewage for hill-tribe people and quite possibly could use someone to help with water monitoring. Take a look at their website, www.khomloy.org, or contact the GM, Caleb directly at 09-242-8262.

  12. On the 3rd Saturday of each month Chiang Rai Hash House Harriers meet at various locations for a social run/walk and beer afterwards. It is a great way to get some exercise and meet some people. For more information, take a look at www.kenoji.com/hash.

  13. Last night I talked with a Thai teacher from Mae Fah Luang University. She has done extensive research with MFL students regarding studying with foreign teachers. One of the most overlooked benefits she found from having foreign teachers in the classroom was that students gained confidence in their ability to talk to foreigners. With the interaction between students and teachers, foreigners stop being objects of curiosity and are not just seen as "farang." It might not be much but it is certainly a step in making Thailand a more international place.

Imagine what will happen if their English gets good enough to understand the international press and what a sham Thaksinomics really is . . . :o
