  1. THere seems to be a lot of these Fords around here all second hand and used by Thai's, they use them for level fill and rebuilding the banks round your fields to hold the water during growing season also used for levelling fill i.e ready for new houses to be built on, having said that there are a few Kubotas appearing on the scene now
Yep if you want to do that sort of work then the ford is ideal, you'd have to be doing a lot of work with it to make it worthwhile though. Chownah is right you can't get new ones anymore they arew all re-conditioned/re-ferbished or just second hand

Here a link to a company thet sell them with some info and spec's

    Mit Alai Tractor Co., Ltd

  2. At the moment its just growing rice once a year I did buy the sister-in-law a new tractor/cultivator and this year we used them to plough the fields, I keep running ideas through my head on what else to do, A second hand Ford seems good idea, maybe I am playing at being a small holder I dont know mis-spent-youth.
I've never seen anyone use a ford for rice, although we don't really grow it around here, I would of thought it's probaly a bit big for your needs unless you intend to hire it out. Mabye one of our "rice experts" could throw a bit more light on the subject
  3. Can anyone give me an idea of what the same or similar second hand (from Japan, not local) in good condition go for ?
I think I paid about 130,000 for mine 24?? (24 hp) with a front bucket (referbished) , just sold it for 100,000 5 years later after a very hard life :o I'd go for second hand if I was you they are'nt expensive to fix and labour is cheap

I was actually refering to the "wormcast" guy who you said did'nt post anymore cos he was given a hard time. I also put a link in to the only other "wormcast" thread I could find. Organic farming is'nt one of my specialities or intrests so it hardly supprising I would'nt remember the actual post you were talking about.

If you have any complaints please PM me and we'll discuss it as 1. it takes the thread off topic and 2. Discussing moderation is against the rules

  5. there was a man selling organic worm compost in an earlier thread, i got to talk to him, poor sod stopped writing on here because certain people started to use obscure points from obscure sites to down cry his product refusing to listen to what he said in his posts, im sure someone can find the thread for you.

I've done a quick search and this is the only thread on wormcast I could find

    Wormcast

I could'nt see the posts you were refering to on it. Please remember this is a discussion forum....we discuss things here :o If someone comes onto the forum with obviously a vested intrest in a product I think it's reasonable for them to recive a bit of "cross examination" and back up and verify their claims to it. If it's just free advertising they want there is a classifides section.

  6. I am considering getting hold of a 2nd hand Ford 6610?

If I bought a new Kubota what size should I buy Around my village are they are using the small one think its 3310 something like that but and good in the wet season?

I all really depends on what you want to use the tractor for. For serious ploughing you would need a ford or simular large tractor, if you just want a general "workhorse", pulling a trailer, cutter, spraying then a small one will do. Are you going to contract the tractor out ? I estimated that I would need at least 100 rai to make getting a large tractor worthwhile, less than that and it's cheaper just to rent one in for the heavy work.

Give us some idea of what you intend to grrw and use it for and we could give you a better idea. I do think if buying a small tractor then its worth the extra for 4wd, mine tends to get bogged down in wet season.

  7. I'm not a doctor either but fully agree with what you say about anyone keeping animals need's to familarise themselfs with the medicens for usual treatments as the standard of vet's here is very hit and miss, people should be aware that there is a withholding period on the meat with many of the injections i.e you can not sell the meat for human consumption for x number of day after injecting, generaly it will say on the bottle. I've anotated you post with some extra bit's, the withholding periods are for milk but will give you a general idea....check the bottle first, they usualy come with an information leaflet

Caution: I am not a doctor, veterinarian, pharmacist or similarly trained person so please satisfy yourself first before following my use of the following injectible medications.

For diarrhoea: Tylosine 20% (1cc / 10kg), Lincomycin (1cc / 10kg), Tiamulin 20% (1cc / 20kg). I now generally prefer to use Tiamulin, and would use only Tiamulin should any blood be presented in the diarrhoea).

For wounds and general infections: Oxycline (oxytetracycline; 1cc / 10kg). Witholding period of about a week, can also be used for a duche after birthing if they have any vaginal infections, mix with water and applly with big syringe and tube. Also helps some eye problems, put a few cc in a syringe and carefully squirt into the eye (without the needle attatched) morning and afternoon.

For sprained legs and skin allergies: Dexon-A (dexamethasone; 0.5-2cc). no witholding period

For pain / fever: Novacilin (dipyrone; 1cc / 10kg). no witholding period

For de-worming: Ivermac-F (invermectin; two strengths: 1% - 1cc /33kg; 1.5% - 1cc / 50kg). withholding period of 45 days (mabye a month for meat) has to be injected subcutainesuly (SP)i.e under the skin, not into the muscle, you can by cheaper "ivermac" copies for less then half the price

For antidote to invenomation by snake, centipede, scorpion or allergic shock to a vaccine: Chlorpheniramine Maleate (1cc / 1kg; must be injected immediately as death normally occurs within a few minutes).

For loss of appetite: Catosal 10% (1cc / 10kg). Catosal is also a genral "pick me up" can be given to mothers just after birth to aide recovery and also used along with other medicans to aide recovery of sick animals, Phosphrotoinc is another medicen with simular properties

A powder pour-on treatment for maggot infested wounds: Negasunt. You can get spray on Oxycline witch comes in an airesol can and is a deep purple coulor, which is very good and easy to use, sometimes we use both, negasunt first then the spray

These medications are all readily available at most animal feed shops and are sold OTC (over the counter – no need for prescriptions).

I might anotate this a bit later as there are some others as well but it would mean walking upto the farm to get the bottles :o If I have'nt comented on anything it's cause I have'nt used it

  8. When my father-in-law died it came to about 80-100,000 all the family chipped in, that includes ahveing a "chedi" built for his reamains.

Yea you could probaly do it for 15,000 bhat, you can also just get married for the registration fee at the local ampour something like 500 bhat. It just depends on what people expectations are and how big the family is, expect another party 100 days later, then every year although not on the same scale

  9. Thanks Ramdom. I'd be delighted to have you visit. I just noticed yesterday that there is a chap (I can't recall his name/handle) who lives in Klong Lan Pattana (I think that's at Klong Nam Rai, if my wife is not mistaken). I assume that's the friend you may mean. If so I'm around 75km from him; 20km after Baan Khao Chon Kan. I'll PM you the details. I haven't contacted that chap yet but was saying to my wife yesterday that I must visit him since he is so close.
Cheers Mate, I got your PM, Yea that sound like Billd766 in Klong Lan , don't bother trying to get in touch until after christmass...he'll be down here :o

Nakhon Sawan seems to be getting more than its fair share of Falang farmers...it's the falnag farming hub :D

  10. Some excelent posts Khinwan, thanks

What do you think of Moo Bha ? if often though about keping a few on a small scale as I assume that their higher selling price could mean better profit. Quite a few of the thais around here say thay are difficult to keep, but you go to any hilltribe village and a large percentage of the houses have them.

I might take you up on that vist offer as I'm not far from you and get up that way fairly often as I have another friend living near Mae Wong, I'm in Tak Far southern end of Nakhon

  11. Update

A quick note to bring all up to date.

    Derrick V.

Thanks for that up-date mate, I'm relived he's doing well and hope he has a speedy recovery

If you could send me your adress or phone number we could arrange it.

    Neil.

Drop me a line with you number and stuff and well sort something out, Bill's down for Christmass, if you fancy a roast lamb dinner :o I've got sort of a open house policy if I'm here your welcome :D

I'm actualy just as close if not closer to Uthai than Nakhon how far from chai Nat are you, have'nt got a map handy at the moment ?

  13. Just had the latest news from Tim's wife

To answer the question everyone has asked and to thank everyone for the messages wil you please send the attached word document to the forum to be pasted up as I am not a member of the forum.

I appreciate very much every one wanting to contact but I dont have the time at the moment but will check the forum every few days.

    Thankyou very much

    Sa-Ing

    For All

I have had 6 emails to day asking what happened. I havent the time to reply to each so this is what we understand happened.

He was cutting corn with the forage harvester and some barb wire got caught in the cutter box. He stopped to climb down to pull the wire out. There is a magnet at the mouth which automatically stops the cutters and rollers if it sense metal. What he did not realise that the barb wire had gone past the side of the cutter in a small space about 1cm and wrapped around the rollers behind the blades before the magnet sense it. So when he pulled it away from the magnet and thought it would just come out, the wire came away from the magnet and the pto switch back on and the rollers start to turn and pull the wire more in. The end of the wire catched his sleave at the elbow so he bent his arm when he tried to pull away and because this his shirt cannot be pulled off his body and he got pulled into the machine.

When the cutter bar hit his bent arm it cut some way then stop but the roller continues to turn and pull him in to crush the arm and included the shoulder and the right side for his chest. The only part not damaged was the hand with his arm bent it is the last part to go in just when the machine stop the 2nd time. I must be honest like everyone who has been involved and say he is partly to blame. With his experiance he should have known to switch off the engine and not just to put the main gearbox in neutral.

I know some of you work with the rice harvestors. Please please be very careful with farm machinary. This was the very big forage harvestor not the small Thailand rice harvesting machine but actually the rice harvesting machinery is the biggest killer in Thailand with farm accidents. It happens every year and it happen always with the experienced worker who doesn’t it expect it. And it happen so fast maybe 1 or 2 seconds before anyone can do anything.

Tim is lucky to be alive and went to the military hospital in Loei first and then after 11 days the insurance company transferred him to Princess Margaret Hospital in Kowloon. As soon as he is well enough to move again the advice is to move him to Dubai or Abu Dhabi. Our daughter and my dad are with him and I will go back for the weekend on Thursday night with my mom and our son.

I want to thank everyone for all the kind message on the forum which I will print out and take.

Tim has little time for the foreigner community, just all of his friends are Thai and up here are not many foreigners. He just lived his work and family. When he joined the farming forum he did not know that there were so many trying to make a success doing farming and was really happy and pleased. In case you didn’t know he was asking my dad now for a long time to speak to the right people to help make small farms like many foreigners have to be 100% legal. He always felt that this was a positive and constructive thing for foreigners and that they should not only be allowed to do it if they have so much money to do it under the Board of Investment which at the moment is the only way to do it with the rule book if you want the law to recognise and protect your business.

I will keep everyone up to date.

    Thank you

edited by me slightly for use on an open forum
  14. How did the bash go RC. Any pics?

    Regards.

Pretty quiet, I had one member "Ruud"come along in the morning but could'nt stay, he'd been planing a visit for a while but is only out here now and again. RCM and ChrisB came over. Billd766 coud'nt make it but was down the next day on a "flying vist" on his way to BKK that turned into an all day affair again. Sadly no pic's and no "curry" cos I just ran out of time. Not many falangs around this part of the world
  15. We are so sad to tell you that we have gotten word from the family and friends of MaizeFarmer, that he was very seriously injured in an accident with farm equipment, and he nearly died. They say that he is recovering in a hospital in Hong Kong after very extensive surgery, and he seems to be improving. We don't have much information.

We know that members of ThaiVisa would want to know about this, and that you wish him all the best toward a speedy recovery. Thanks for your concern.
