1. Just you and your family be very careful when going out to a movie theatre and/or going to church, or any number of other public places, especially in FLA..

The US is a gun-crazed nation, pissed off that they have a black POTUS and will be getting a female one for the next 8 years.

I lived in Thailand for 6 years and have now been back on the beach in Cali for 5.

Best of luck to you and family and PLEASE keep your head down and teach your loved ones self-defense and what to do in case of a firearm-related emergency.

Lots of folks don't consider this when moving back to the states...and oh, BTW, don't talk back to a US Cop.

2. The real tragedy here is that virtually EVERYBODY at the party was "carrying" !!

What has this country come to when a party is not complete without embibing in one of the most dangerous drugs on the planet?

And basically poor, working, Thai folks are ALL doing this shit? And with kids in attendance?

It would appear that Thai society, in general has really hit the skids.

If these kinds of drugs are this popular and easy to get, the General REALLY has his work cut out for him!

Unbelievable...

3. I am hoping this general is bright enough and stern enough and lasts long enough to get around to dealing with these murderers. It will take a bravely intelligent man to conjur up any kind of "peace" down there. Maybe they could ask the west for some drones?

I have been thinking lately that it would take a "walk softly, but carry a big stick" approach, seeing how all the last govt's have failed.

Just sayin'

4. My only fears about moving to Chumpon when I lived in both Phuket and Hua Hin was the constant flooding problems at the convergence of the rivers. The beaches were beautiful and the people were great..,but there are serious floods almost every year. '_'

5. An autocracy is a system of government in which a supreme power is concentrated in the hands of one person, whose decisions are subject to neither external legal restraints nor regularized mechanisms of popular control

(....and of course..... in said person's absence....he will delegate...)

....isn't it just too obvious....while the 'Prime Minister' is in 'hiding' in the north somewhere.......

Yeah...screw this dangerous Bangkok shit...I gotta go where I'm "loved". What a freegin' joke she is! '_'

6. Its not just the Dengue...its also Malaria and Chikungunya and several other mosquito and waterborn diseases. It helped to end my retirement in Thailand and has severely affected my life ever since.

I truly believe that if I had taken more precautions and had notification from authorities, at the time, that DAYTIME mosquitoes were spreading a terrible disease at a crisis stage, I would be much better off now.

It took my good friends life in Mexico and it goes WAY under reported because its bad for business in 3rd world countries. Some expats don't even want to admit they've had it/them.

Just a sliver of TRUTH from the tropics.

7. Bottom line is...just like many 3rd world countries, don't ever bring in anything valuable. Leave it athome and use plastic whenever possible.

I lived there 5 years after having been on vaca many times.

Was ripped off more times than I care to remember. Anybody that tells you any different is pulling your whatever.

Thieving is a way of life for these folks and the continuous inventiveness of the crims will always beone jump ahead of the corrupt authorities.

Welcome to the jungle.

8. The thing that really must stick in his craw is he is the only hi so to ever get convicted to jail time! i expect many politicians don't want him to come back and go to prison as it would set a much needed precedent of know one being to big to break the law and do time!

Others have been convicted. They usually get released on bail to appeal. Justice if VEEERRRY slow in Thailand.

Your correct of course. Could Thaksin not appeal now? and come back? Surely in the Thai legal system there is some way he could appeal from where he is, delayed due to some strange circumstance etc Could they give him some type of Government position, and then come back when parliament is in session and he would have immunity for a period of time.

He had a set period of time to appeal after the verdict. I don't think he had to be here to appeal. He didn't appeal in the specified time frame, so now it's too late.

Not only is he Bi-Polar, he is delusional and terminally stupid.
9. The SEA is what it is. Anyone who believes that it is any more or any less evolved than anywhere elsein the third world, really must be delusional. Thailand is just another symptom of a worldwide disease...ie...

The powers that be and the ones that WANT to be.

New money versus old money.

New ideals versus old ideals.

Religion versus religion versus science...etc,etc,etc.

We are not in Thailand because we want to live in an "enlightened" society.

That should have been clear early on.
