  1. It is a common topic in the visa forum but I am seeking specific recommendation in Chiang Mai. Many argue that Immigration prefer the use of agents. An example, a police order says that Immigration should accept 2 monthly deposits for the first Non-O retirement visa. I messaged Chiang Mai Immigration and they will not accept it. I did not tell them I knew of the police order. I'm not looking for a fight. Immigration is aware of agents and their action or inaction often convey a preference that people use them. At least that is a reasonable interpretation. The should or should not of it varies. Some simply do not want their money tied to limited returns. Some want to be unimpeachable if questioned. I do me. What you choose is in your wheelhouse. I'll still tilt a beer with you.
  2. Same question. Seeking a visa agent recommendation in Chiang Mai for Non-O based on retirement. I would greatly appreciate a nudge. Thanks.
  3. FWIW at the same time I made this post I asked Chiang Mai Immigration on Facebook. They responded they want 800k or 12 monthly transfers for the first extension.
  4. No I'm American. We just pay taxes on worldwide income. We don't get anything for it. 555
  5. If I go for a Non-O visa based on retirement, at the time of my first one year extension will they accept 2 initial 65k bank transfers for the one year extension?
  6. Thanks. A bit far from me. I'll give them a call first.

I am looking for some full fat provolone, not smoked. Whole or shredded is fine. I've looked at Big C, Lotus and Makro but didnt turn up much. I'm looking to make the local pizza I grew up on and it's topped with 100% provolone.
  8. I am on a Covid extension. It was up on the 16th but I had it in my mind it was the 18th. When I went to prepare the afternoon of the 17th I realized I was over. I flew to Immigration very late in the afternoon. They acknowledged the overstay of one day at the front desk but I still went into queue. As the queue advanced I wasnt sure I would make it before closure and in fact I was the very last person in the office at the end of the day. They had me pay and sign for the fine. In the end they issued an under consideration stamp and I go back next week to get the extension. I defer to others experience on a threshold for leniency but would advise to just make it correct as soon as possible for the best outcome.
  9. Makro Express in Nimman carries them.
  10. This may be of interest. https://www.speedtest.net/performance/thailand/chiang-mai
  11. I bought the Lispriil 20 mg an hour ago from Peera.
  12. Post to share or PM if you prefer. I'm looking for a visa agent for a Non-O with financial assistance. I'm looking locally here in Chiang Mai. I spoke to one local agency and they quoted 45k (15 mth + financial assistance). The same in Pattaya runs 25k at Maneerat. I'd like to match or better that price without the necessity of going to Pattaya. Of course if I do go I may find use for the difference. Thanks in advance.
  13. I've no interest in an argument but I will try to add to a rational discussion points I have not heard widely articulated. 1. Some countries ARE still closed There are still countries and destinations which are closed. Are they dwindling? Yes. Did the Thai government decide to not distinguish a list of acceptable and unacceptable destinations in the interest of simplicity and trusting their Immigration staff? Yes. 2. Not everyone is returning their home country Travelers have different destinations. Some are on round the world trips. Some are on religious pilgrimages. Some are on a chain of business trips. Immigration does not evaluate based on the accessibility of the country issuing the passport. 3. The order actually includes regional conflicts as well. I'll just quote the order (Google translate). I will include a full translation of the order below.
  14. It's not a party. Personally when the Covid extensions are up I'll convert to a Non-O based on retirement but the extensions have allowed those funds to sit in US based accounts and given time to recover from an awful first half of 2022 in the markets. You may argue whether that's within the spirit of the Covid emergency but this pandemic has many tendrils.
  15. I tend to agree that they'll remain available. My rationale is the extension of the state of emergency and the CCSA. If not, I'll go Monday and get another month. Unfortunately my current extension is through mid-August and Chiang Mai Immigration extends from date of application and not the end of your current extension.
  16. Check Peera Pharmacy CNX on Facebook. Responsive on Messenger. Bought 20mg there about a month ago. 10mg should not be a problem. They did stop making 20 mg. It's the one that's hard to find now.
  17. I just did a Covid extension. For the application I arrived at 8:30 AM and was there 75 minutes. For the stamp, two weeks later, I arrived around 10 AM and was there 45 minutes. Lunch at Immigration is at Noon. Hope that helps.
  18. I had a March 2016 license which expired March 2018. I should have renewed it winter 2019 when I was here but got busy. Went to renew in Chiang Rai province in January 2022. I had the expired Thai 2 year license, US license and International License. I told the ladies I'd like to get a 5 year license. I had to do the reaction tests, the written exam but not the road test/driving exam. I had to have a physical form filled out. I may have had my girlfriend's blue book but I cant recall now. Also, I was on a CR-30 visa exempt stamp (30 days) with Covid extension. The ladies were helpful and nice and I walked out with my 5 year license for motorcycle and passenger car. If you're having issues with the exam there are several sites on the internet with the questions and answers. Just google them. I also began by reading the Land Traffic Act in english.
  19. I used Bolt a few months ago on arrival in Chiang Mai. Good service and they responded. On arrival I tried Grab at the Terminal 3 Bus Station but no one responded. I got the impression, right or wrong, that most of the taxi's waiting around were signed up for Grab but just not accepting the rides instead trying to negotiate directly. Tried Bolt. They showed up and took me to my destination.
  20. This is a report on a Covid-19 extension at Chiang Mai Immigration. USA passport entered the country 22 December 2021 on CR30 visa exemption current visa extension through 19 June 2022 Today I went to extend under the May 24 expiry knowing it had been extended. Chiang Mai Immigration would extend but advised me they could only extend for 60 days from TODAY's DATE. My prior extensions had been in Chiang Rai and they consistently added 60 days from the end of my existing visa. I opted not to extend and get some advice here. Is this consistent with the CM Immigration office position or did I get a bad agent and should return for another attempt?
  21. I'm not certain anyone will ever care about this to this degree but for posterity... I tried Makro per the recommendations above. In the case were the usual brands all of which I've tried with the exception of Bangkok Meats: TGM (best of the bunch), Arco, CP, Thai Butcher (?). Recommendations above said there were several frozen varieties and I had the hardest time finding them. I scoured the pork offerings to no avail and as I was about to give up found all the frozen bacon over in prepared meats far from the pork. Go figure. There were about 3-4 frozen and I selected the Pichaya brand. 271 per kilo but I selected it because it made my hands smell of smoke after holding the package. A good sign. All of the brands are thin cut. Not finding any brands of peppered bacon, maple bacon or bacon with particular smoked woods (hickory, applewood, etc). I suspect I can at least get a thick cut moving to the specialty meats like Chiang Mai Gourmet. I'll drop a note on the quality of the Pichaya after I've had a few rashers.
  22. Appreciate the recommendation on CM Gourmet. I'll give them a shot after I try Makro this week. Ditto on Sausage King. Definitely see a smoker in my future if I settle here.
  23. 555 I just left Big C. Next week.
  24. Thanks. I have a Makro Express near me and I buy fruit there. I'll see what they have when I'm out.
