My wife is on her way back from her village in Sisaket at the moment after spending a week visiting her dad while I stayed at our home in Phuket. I haven't been to the village for several years because my father-in-law was staying in Phuket, but now that he has returned to the village my wife goes twice a year and I will go every 2 years. Here are a few suggestions for things to do in the village. 1) Arrange to have screens installed on the windows at the family home before you go. It's not expensive at all. Then you can leave all the windows wide open day and night and not be eaten alive. You may want to buy a couple extra fans, too. 2) Consider sleeping at a nearby resort and going to the farm during the day. If you're near Khun Han I recommend Rerawardi Resort. It's owned by a German/Thai couple. They have a nice restaurant, good pool, and bake fresh bread every day. You will find a number of English speakers, mainly German and Scandanavian, at the bar in the evenings. 3) Treat a group of kids from the village to a visit to a public swimming pool. I was treated like a rock star when I did that. The kids were so excited and had a wonderful time. 4) Samrong Kiat Waterfall is worth a visit if you're near Khun Han. 5) Kantharalak has a couple decent bars if you're in that area. 6) Taking the Golden to a vet and having him neutered won't change his personality but may reduce his urge to hump everything. Hope you have an enjoyable stay.

I hadn't heard about this requirement, but if you have been to the hospital before and have a patient ID card I doubt they would ask for your passport.

French Motorcyclist Arrested for Daring Kamala Stunt
westsail replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
A 6,000 baht fine and suspended sentence, same as what the French Arabs who ran the police checkpoint in Kamala got, isn't going to do a damn thing to deter this type of behavior. They need to jail them for a couple weeks, impound the bikes, deport them, and blacklist them if they want to get the message out that there will be consequences for this type of behavior. -
I have Amazon Prime and I find Amazon will not ship most of the goods I am interested in to Thailand. Though it has started to improve a little in the last few years.

I think a letter from you to the consular officer for your wife to take with her to the interview may be helpful. Tell them about your situation, your future plans together, and give them whatever assurance you can that she will be returning to Thailand. My situation was a little different because I was living in Thailand when my wife applied for a tourist visa. She said the interviewing officer seemed very interested in a letter she took with her written by my brother welcoming her to the family and saying how much everyone was looking forward to meeting her. She didn't have any money, property, a good job, or children but her visa was approved.

Buying a car at the Bangkok Motor Show
westsail replied to westsail's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Thanks for all the comments and suggestions. I think I'll save myself a trip to Bangkok unless we have another reason to go there around the time of the Motor Show. -
What is the incentive for purchasing a car at the annual Motor Show rather than buying from a dealer? Do you get a discount off the list price, or free options thrown in? Can you take delivery in your home province (Phuket in my case) or do you have to pick up the car in Bangkok? I am probably looking to buy a Honda HRV base model e:HEV E listing for 979k. I would especially like to hear from people who have bought at the auto show in the past.

We are flying to Da Nang tomorrow (Sunday) for 5 days. I'll need to exchange a little bit at the airport, but once I get to the city where will I receive the best exchange rate?

Bangkok Bank Wire from the USA
westsail replied to atpeace's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
You can check BB's current exchange rate anytime at: https://www.bangkokbank.com/en/Personal/Other-Services/View-Rates/Foreign-Exchange-Rates The TT buying rate is the rate they pay when you send USD. I have found very slightly better rates at other places, but the % fee has no limit. The 500 baht max charged by BB works out better for me. -
Filing a joint tax return in America with Thai wife
westsail replied to JGA's topic in Marriage and Divorce
I submitted an application for a TIN for my Thai wife together with our first joint tax return in 2011 without reporting any income for her. It took a little longer to process, but there were no problems or questions asked. -
Documents required to buy a New Honda Scooter
westsail replied to Startmeup's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
You had to have the Proof-of-address to get your Thai driver's license. It may be stapled on a back page in your passport. -

One Year Marriage Extension
westsail replied to Melpomene's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I used a visa agent one time during covid. If I was even able to leave Thailand I knew that I could not return, and they always waited unitil the last minute to announce whether covid extensions would be available. I decided to use an agent since I never knew when I might find myself on overstay. I changed from a non-O Retirement to a 12 month marriage extension. That worked fine until I went to the IO in Phuket 10 months later to renew my visa. The Immigration Officer saw the stamp from upcountry and asked me about that. He told me I would be deported if ever did that again. I had to leave Thailand, return on a tourist visa, applly for a 60 day visa and so on. -
Am I the only one using (Indian) 'cook in sauces'?
westsail replied to BritManToo's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I like to make Indian curry at home, too. You can often find a couple varieties of Indian curry sauce and paneer in the frozen section at Makro. -
I can tell if they are Russian if I say "Hello" or "Good morning" when walking by the beach early in the morning and they totally ignore me. It's peaceful and uncrowded in the early morning and most people give a friendly reply when you speak to them. That's not the way of most Russians. I have been to Russia a few time and have prior experience with Russian people.
