  1. Nope. Did not. No travel plans. I was worried Leon was going to axe the diplomatic staff!
  2. 60 years, halfprice at non-peak hours, never expires. Can probably top up anywhere.
  3. Don't like eating, do ya? I'd take anarchy over a missed dinner...
  4. Oh, yes I would. They're just here to support their families at home, same as Hispanics in America. In fact, they keep Thailand running, make almost nothing & are at constant risk of immigration jail & eventual deportation. You must be listening to Leon telling us empathy is the problem with society.
  5. In the name of equality...and half-price whichnever expires!
  6. Thx. For me, it's just a parking account for retirement. Won't do anything from here. My son in PA has my PoA to handle Vanguard online. Looks pretty good.
  7. Rajadamri. They changed them a few years ago which was a bit of an adventure. The trick is NEVER give up your card if they harass you. I've been hassled just twice (Phayathai & Phrom Pong). At Phayatai, a BTS gal & security ran up to the platform; all smiles whenI showed then pink ID (and I don't even look Burmese!). At Phrom Pong, security tried to grab my arm & I screamed bloody murder in Thai & the whole station just stopped. Helps to tell them to call in BTS lawyers. I also carry a copy of the passages in the Thai Constitution which prohibit discrimination on the basis of age or nationality. I'm so invested in equality, I'm fully prepared to tell them to call in the BiB and have me arrested for theft of services. Somehow, I doubt they will! Further advice: pick an out of the way station for top-up. I usually keep B500 on mine.
  8. I do take the elderly seats when they're offered by someone young &, in turn, offer the seat to a wee one or elder more hobbled than I. Not so long ago, anyone would offer to hold your bag if you were standing on public transport. That consideration may still exist else in Thailand but not in the capital.
  9. Lewie, thank you. Best writing I've seen in a long while. Made my day, funny & real!
  10. Thx for this info! I do have a US address as well.
  11. I use mine to buy a purple Elder Card for BTS. Yes, they've hassled me exactly twice since BTS was built.
  12. Got it. But tax liability, too.
  13. The deal is these young Israelis, both genders just escaped conscript service in the IDF killing Palestinians. They've always come here afterwards to blow off steam.
  14. Another thread here discusses gold & silver. I just want a parking spot for retirement that earns more interest than the bank. Money is in the US. Seems like Vanguard has a lot of options. Any direction over which part of Vanguard is most lucrative & safe? What about tax concerns, there & here? I'm a Yank with a SSN, joint account with Thai, no US ties. It's her money!
  15. Hehe. I want a wall to keep them damn Yanquis out!
  16. An effective protest would be to send your daughter to school with the same haircut required of your son. With daughter's permission, of course; I bet this can be a fund activist effort for your family!
  17. The Canadian Embassy proved themselves as useless as usual. I went in at the appointed time and had to wait an hour because they couldn't find the consul. When they did, she said it was not the Embassy's business to notarise Canadian powers-of-attorney! Last week, I went to the US Embassy to renew my passport. I had a similar Power of Attorney to be notarised. $75 and five minutes! At the appointed time... This is why I need a Canadian lawyer, practicing or not, in Bangkok, as expat or tourist. Anybody know one? Christopher G. Moore??
  18. How long until you remember it???
