  1. My live tv channels were being lost all the time in xbmc. Ones that remained were hopelessly buffering. The only channel i could get clear was al jazeera, which i can get just by plugging in my tv without any android bix. I could watch sitcoms on Genesis but always frustrating trying to get a working stream then putting up with the buffering.

Updated to kodi, so now my live tv screen simply goes black, the tv guide section crashes and can't get anything to play on Genesis.

Its too complicated and i don't have hours and hours of spare time to constantly fight with this thing. Its really disappointing.

The sports net canada links hadn't worked since last fall.

well you can always pay someone to fix it for you .. as all those links do work so I assume your internet is rubbish too, so you should be getting that fixed before you even consider any IPTV device ..

jonc I would happily pay someone to professionaly set up XBMC on my box. I have a pretty standard xbmc setup but it could be so much better. Apart from the tweaks and programming options I'm probably missing I'm going to be installing a full home theatre in a few weeks and I apprhensive about getting all the sound passthrough etc set up when it all arrives.

I am running XBMC on windows 8.1 on an Intel NUC i5 mini htpc. If you know anyone that can do a professional set up could you please let me know. I live in the lower sukhumvit area but I can throw the box in a backpack and bring it to someone for programming if needed.

  2. The Uplayhd addon is not on the tvaddons site to install it download the repository zip to your hard disk from github ( just google Uplayhd addon its the first link) and used the install from zip function on xbmc. Then enable it.

  3. Want buy a m8 box can someone provide a complete channel list ?

Thrugh xbmc/Kodi you can get live TV channels from all over the world. Unfortunately finding the right m3u list is the problem. The current m3u list I use has now got 8999 live channels and it's useless case I cant find anything without scrolling for hours. It used to be a manageable 300 channels but the owner has done something to it.

There are a couple of xbmc/Kodi addons that provide live Channels, vdubt25 has 100-200 channels and he tries to keep them working. Another which I've just found is a thai based addon called uplayhd that pretty much copies the pay service ilikehd. I haven't gone through all the channels yet but the streaming quality is excellent.

  4. Instant noodles and a freezer that you can store different topping like beef balls, pork balls, shrimp balls, octopus balls, frozen shrimp, frozen thinly sliced pork or beef or fish etc. Keep a little bok choy and green chives in your fridge.

I think there is actually a restaurant somewhere in phuket town that specializes in mama noodles with addons. If you can't find it then just spend a week going to noodle shops trying everything you can to get ideas. Or if you're lazy the just google instant noodle recipes and you'll have enough to keep you going for 3 lifetimes.

You can also buy frozen gyoza, dumplings wanton shumai etc from places like big c

  5. Thanks for the info. Did buy at Lazada BKK for 3560baht,came fully loaded but their fully loaded is different to western loaded. Yes made new Google account to access M8,transferred it back to comp account,so OK.

Gees its like a Chinese puzzle setting it up,got Popcorn for movies, but looking at getting news etc.Sky etc. Just mess around with it I guess Ill stumble on the right path I hope

Through your M8 box, Go to tvaddons.com, download xbmc/Kodi for android, ( it's on the front page of the website ) then get the instructions from the TVaddons site to install the HUB wizard and install it. This will fully load your xbmc/Kodi with addons to view just about anything.

Spend some time on the tv addons site checking out how xbmc works and start playing with your system downloading addons.

For movies and TV shows you'll want the 1 channel, genisis, and maybe entertainment hub. They all do the same thing but are set up slightly different. For an easy live TV addon install The vdubt25 addon it has a hundred odd live TV statiins including sky sports bbc etc. Note some of the live channels may not work sometimes but the developer of the add on tries to keep them up and running.

There are a huge number of utube videos to show you how to set up pretty much everything. Just search xbmc set up xxxxxx or whatever.

If you can handle the initial setup and take a little time to move up the xbmc learning curve then you will never have to buy a pay cable TV service again and you will have the ultimate TV viewing options.

Great, thanks for advice, will give it a go Like to get shut of the apps already installed and start afresh, hope its straightforward

Used to have UKTV,but only ever used it for catch up TV , the 6 to 7 hour time gap was the killer Will purchase VPN and get BBC i player

Normally the M8 box has xbmc/Kodi preinstalled so if yours had you can skip installing that and just install the xbmc hub software from tvaddons.com. There are instructions on the site as well as utube vids to help you.

For The vdubt25 addon just utube vdubt25 and take his latest video. He recently converted his live TV to an addon so the video you want is from late December early January .

  7. Do others on this forum think it woukd be helpful to have a pinned topic under the audio visual or computers section dedicated to XBMC/KODI.

There are a lot if TV members who use XBMC/Kodi for all or part of their Television viewing in Thailand and there are even sponsors who sell boxes with XBMC/Kodi fully loaded.

XBMC/Kodi is always changing and there are set up issues, new addons and always tweaks that can be made. I know there are dedicated forums available but it would be nice to have a place on thai visa to discuss getting the best XBMC viewing experience in Thailand. ( for example what are the best stream options as ISP's sometimes throttle some themes or where to get thai subtitles etc)

I'm not sure how to get a dedicated topic but maybe if enough users support it the moderators will create one

    Thanks

  8. As far as pricing goes I woukd say this is a pretty good deal for most people,I woukd say the Jsat box is as well.

I have no affiliation with either company as a matter of fact I woukd never buy one as I built my own HTPC and have setup several android boxes myself. The boxes they offer are reasonably priced compared to buying a decent android box and downright cheap compared to building your own High end HTPC. The main benefit is they provide a you with everything loaded and set up and ready to go. If you don't want to spend time ( and get frustrated) setting up a box then these are good value.

My Minix x8-h cost me 5k, my mx about 4k my HTPC was around 30k and i actually enjoy setting them up and spend a lot of time fiddling with the programming.

There are people out there trying to sell these boxes for 10-20k and others for 5-8k with monthly fees attached wich I think is a ripoff. But if you don't want to hassle with setup and programming the box then these boxes full loaded at 5900 are fair deal. If you don't like it then build your own.

  9. Interesting video.

The girls don't want to be recognized by their family and friends back home in Esan, because the family was told they were working in hotels.

More likely they don't want to be recognized by their foreign sponsors who think they are working in hotels or 7/11 etc

The families will believe they were only giving massages as they still want the money. Their foreign sponsor will cut off the money.

  10. I've been watching Mad Dogs about a group of friends from the UK that go and visit their mate in Mallorca. They get tangled up in drugs, illicit cash, corrupt police and murder.

Sounds good so downloading seasons 1 & 2.

Thanks for this tip.i'm watching it on Xbmc which has 4 seasons available and I'm almost finished season 2. It's a bit like a Guy Ritchie movie without the humor

  11. The baht is still fixed to a basket of currencies of which the usd is the main component.

In addition a simplified answer would be thailand has a trade surplus so that is creating demand for the Baht. Thailand's largest import is oil and with the price of oil dropping the trade surplus has increased so countries that are buying products from thailand need to buy baht to pay for them. That buying keeps the baht propped up.

  12. Thanks, Gerry the 20k per year doesn't bother me, and I guess in 20 years there will be some other program around.

The Thai 5 year DL does bother me but I asked at the DL issuing center and there isn't a conspiracy or any thing like that, it's just when the DL issuing act was written these program didn't exist and the visa type wasn't included in the regulations. It's a case of because it isn't specified as being eligible then they can't issue a 5 year license against it.

  13. The biggest thing affecting tourism is the weakness of international currencies ex the US dollar. Over the years inbound tourism to phuket has gravitated to the package tourist who generally doesn't have the capacity to absorb a major cost increase due to currency fluctuations. The December high season was ok but that's probably because the packages were bout and paid for several months ago before we saw the major currency drops. The worst is yet to come.

Another issue that has a major effect albeit a much slower impact is the attitude of the local people toward tourism. Frankly over the past few years it seems that tourists have become the enemy on phuket. Tourists are exploited for every last penny that can be extracted from them legally and then subjected to all manners of illegal scams and overcharging monopolies which the locals defend with impolite dismissive verbiage, intimidation or in some situations violence.

The majority of people who can afford international travel would not be at the bottom of the soci-economic pile so they generally can realize when they are being treated badly, exploited , overcharged or cheated. They don't like it, it spoils their holiday and they are less likely to return.

The locals think there will always be another plane load or bus load coming in tomorrow but over time there won't be. There won't be a sudden death blow to the tourism golden goose it will be a slow painful process.

Things could be turned around but I have little faith they will be. As the ligitimate tourism dollar declines, locals will increase prices in an attempt to maintain their income and when that fails the scams, cheating, overcharging and crimes against tourists will increase and hasten the downfall.

That's my Sunday rant done - have a great day!

  14. @gerry you mentioned that your original TE visa was a SE visa and now you have the PE visa.

I am on my second SE visa and with the SE visa you still have to renew your permission to stay every 3 months. How do I change my TE visa from SE to PE so I can get the 1 year entry.

A while back they asked all the lifetime members to switch to the 20 year membership with a 20,000 annual fee. I didn't do the switch so is the only way to change my SE visa to a PE visa is convert my lifetime membership to the 20 year member with annual fee?

Another question is that does the 1 year PE visa allow you to get a 5 year drivers license as they will only give you a 1 year DL on the SE visa and won't allow you to upgrade that to a 5 year license when that expires.

I feel it's a little bit of an injustice that guys who pay for a 5 year Membership get a 12 month entry while people like me who shelled out for the lifetime membership only get 3 months.

  15. Can you guess how much I love you ?

Thank you so much not to recommend this island to any one ! So funny you are to go in a quiet part of the island then expect moving !!!

NO WE DO NOT NEED MORE PEOPLE WITH STUPID MOTORCYCLE TO BRING NOISE AND POLLUTION.

NO WE DO NOT WANT MORE TOURISTS.

YES YOU SHOULD GO SOMEWHERE ELSE like Haad Rin or even SAMUI to live with the crowd of drunk and drugged.

Thank you again for all !!!

Your name suggests you run or work at a factory outlet. Who are your main customers, tourists or locals?

Be careful what you wish for.

  16. Thanks for the advice everybody. I'm heading out today to check out some speakers and a receiver at fortune town. I do t want to carve a channel down the wall but I looked at some cabling prices and was pretty shocked. If I was reading it cirrectly the cabling can cost more than the speakers. That doesn't sound right but as I said I'm not an expert so it's posdible that people who want perfect sound would pay 100's of thousands to wire 5 or seven speakers.

  17. The receiver I'm looking at is the Onkyo tx-nr 838. The reason is that it seems to be the latest spec and has support for 4k upscaling and streaming as well as heavy duty wifi capabilities.

I've just bought an 84 inch LG UHD TV so I want to extract the maximum pleasure out of it. It's the one with the Harmon speakers up either side but they really don't do justice to the huge picture.

I have power to my ceiling but no way to get speaker cabling there unless I carve a channel through the wall behind the TV.

I've been to a few shops in Paragon and Erawan but to be honest after 2 minutes the sales person Is focussed on what he wants to sell me not what I want to buy.

  18. I'm not an audiophile so apologies if my question is a little out there.

I would like to set up my tv room with some kind of surround sound or at least better audio that comes from my TV. I don't like bulky speakers so is it possible to have wireless ceiling mounted speakers ( flush ) that could provide decent sound. I know I would still Ned a sub woofer

I have seen a receiver for around 50k that I like and would be looking to spend around 50-60k on the speakers, I'm not looking for anything super special. Just a mid range combination of speakers that can be discreetly positioned and give me a better sound quality than I get from the tv.

I've looked at soundbars and there is one from Yamaha for around 50k but I'm nor sure if that would be better than multiple speakers.

Any advise would be appreciated especially where and what to buy

    Thanks

  19. As I understand it the army has acquired a current stocks of new brooms for sweeping clean activities. Unfortunately this is expected to be an extremely long drawn out affair so current estimations are that new brooms will not be available until your next life or the one after that. The good news is that when the army is finished thailand will be so clean that new brooms will be obsolete and have gone the way of the buggy whip. In the meantime sleep easy knowing that the sacrifice you're making by stepping through your own dirt and muck every day will in the future benefit the whole of thai society.

  20. As a person currently looking for a nanny I would say there is a demand if you also offered job placement services.

I think 30k is way too much for the Nannies I've seen to afford so you may have to tweak your business model so that the nanny pays a nominal cost and the bulk of your revenue comes from the placement of the nanny.

    I wouldn't pay 30k for a nanny but I'd pay 1 months salary which would be 15-18k

In addition you could offer part time classes for employers that want to train their maids to be nannies but I dobt whether you could get 30 per person.
