  1. When I went looking around Tops and the Central Food Halls in BKK such as at CentralWorld and Central Chidlom, I was surprised to see a name and a brand that's I'd never heard of before -- Pain Is Good from the U.S. -- and in particular the Jalapeno Sauce bottles, 7 oz./198g that are on sale right now for for 155b, regular price 199b. The label says "all natural" and if you peel off the Thai ingredients paste-on label to see the English original ingredients label underneath, you'll see that jalapeno peppers, water and vinegar are the top 3 ingredients, and the salt content is only 5 mg per teaspoon, which is pretty low. And I do love my jalapenos, in all forms!

I brought home about 10 different brands/bottles to try over a period of time during my shopping today, but I think it's safe to say that the PIG Jalapeno Sauce is going to be the first one I open.

Meanwhile, Tops and the Central Food Halls are also stocking a half dozen or so other products by the same company, a few other chili sauces, and quite a few flavored BBQ sauces. I bought one of the BBQ sauces to try as well, the Smoked Chipotle flavor in a 20.5 oz./581g bottle for 249b reg, sale 199b. But as might be expected from a BBQ sauce as opposed to a chili sauce, the ingredients list is heavy with corn syrup, sugar, honey, etc. So I'll plan to give it a try for the flavor and just to see, but BBQ sauces really are a different thing from chili / hot sauces.

And here's a look at the broader range of Pain is Good sauces that are on the store shelves right now.

The thinner, whisky-flask type bottles to the right are their chili/hot sauces. The bigger, round bottles to the left are their BBQ sauces.

They also a 5oz bottles of Da Bomb in Ghost pepper and beyond insanity, and you really want some heat, be care full, put a toothpick in and try it, as full strength will take your breath away, and I eat some really ho peppers, but these make Habeneros taste like candy!

  2. Try getting you beef from the Thai- French butchers, behind Villa on Sukumvit 33 or beside Zeer. They cut and grind the beef for me, I use chuck steak, have tender loins,T-Bones, anything you want. Burgers are juicey, even their flank steak I cook on grill has been great

  3. Several threads about this in the farming sub-forum.

Some say they dont grow well: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/836566-hot-pepper-seeds-wanted-mexican-type/?p=9585622&hl=chilli

Seeds taken from fruit sold for eating may not be viable due to the way they are treated or the use of hybrid varieties. No harm trying, of course.

Villa has local and import peppers, buy the local ones from the Kings Project and they will not be treated. Wife grows jalapeno and habaneros in small pots and had no problems, the habaneros had more fruit than the others, but now she got her hands on some Carolina Reaper seeds, that could be scary!

  4. Anybody know of any places that sell actual smoked hams, not the ones filled with liquid smoke. I would really love to get one of the Tavern Hams or the butts with none in. I have tasted everything the Villa sells and they all have that artificial taste. Must be some farang out there with a actual smoker and doing this. Would like a real christmas dinner this year!!

  5. Aftr looking everywhere for some of the Extra hot stuff from back home, I imported a bunch and put a couple to share in the classifieds, Ghost pepper picante, spicy cooking sauces, and habenero/japaleno sauce. Hard to find these X tra hot items here in Thailand, so I paid the price and have had others interested before, so willing to share the bounty for a few items. Just place ad, so maybe a day before posted

  6. the best in thailand comes from THE PON-YANG-KHAM meat co-operative,they have outlets throughout thailand.

    nice shop in rangsit.whole rib-eye around 600bht.kilo.sirlion 695bht.whole 665bht.sirlion rump [for roasting] 350bht.kilo.

if you place a decent order they will deliver.

    contact 0868596865 042-756126.

" Then the cuts are delivered to retail customers and the two cooperatives outlets, in Rangsit and in Sukhumvit Soi 33 -35“

That's mean that they're also supplying Thai-French people, where the price presumably

double and triple it self,,, the prices showing on their website are from 2009, let's hope

    they haven't moved up much....

i buy in bulk 20kilo's + or whole sirlions, ribs, top, bottom round and cut it myself.the one time i got it from rangsit didnt buy much about 5,000bht.worth and they cut it,no discount.that address 33soi sukhumvit sounds like villa market to me not a butchery.

Soi 33 butchery is located on the right inside parking area of Villa! I have got some great meat from there, ribeyes and T-Bones, and flank steak also. Sometime i get ground beef from them also and you tell them how much fat you want and can pick the cut of meat ground with, as I like my burgers a little fatty like in the US!

  7. Any thoughts on the Yaris G? I still prefer the Jazz but just wanted others views? Jazz is more expensive so that's also a consideration.

Just bought one and haven't even picked it up yet, have to wait on fog lights and undercoating, film, etc. I looked and we drove a lot and in my opinion best value and ride overall for under 700, 000 THB was the Yaris, Vios, And the MG3.

  8. I rented a Toyota Yaris for a week one time. If I ever had to buy another car, it would be the Yaris - roomy for its size.

Will be picking up a new one this week when they get done with all the extras and undercoating! Still have the Vigo, but we put the lift kit on, won't fit in a lot of parking garages!

  9. Waiting for finance to give us the go right now on a new Yaris. We had one 4 yrs ago and traded in on a truck, now keeping truck and getting a shiny new G model and almost all options you can get on the list! New one 1.2 liter. We jacked up the truck and now can't get in some of the parking areas, so we will use the little car when parking is an issue! Wife fell in love with the new orange one!

  10. I changed my previous 1 year license to the 5 year one last week.

The transition from 1 to 5 years never needs a test. Wait until you do the 5 to 5 years, you will get the pleasure of entertainment.

Renewed my 5 year license today, they gave me 6 years on it and only did color test and didn't need doctors paper. Just waited in line for 15 minutes and gave her papers, did color test and took picture, was in and out in 20 minutes. Must of hit it right!

  11. Gecko Garden in Chiang Mai makes their own Polish Keilbassa. It is a different texture from the real thing and does not taste as good, but only 100 baht for 2 Keilbassa sausages on rolls with mashed potatoes and a salad. It is not as good as the imported kind, but still pretty good and cheap.

Just a little far from Bangkok, but maybe will help someone out that way! Thanks anyway!

  12. Anyone making or know where to buy good smoked sausage or keilbassa in or near Bangkok? Villa 33 had both beef and pork sausage and Kielbassa imported in plastic wrapped from USA, but stopped selling as they said not enough sales to keep getting, they use that excuse for a lot of things! Anyways looking hard, I love this stuff and cannot find actual smoked meat so far in my searches, just hot dogs with smoke flavoring! Good Polish Keilbassa is hard to beat, same with good potato perogies!!
