  1. My girlfriend got bitten on the bum by a centipede a couple of years ago. It was in the bed. She said it was extremely painful and even now she still has a mark on her backside from the bite / sting.

There was a guy on thai visa that said he was bitten on the neck/shoulder area by one, whilst in bed. He said it caused him shoulder pain/problems for 6 months.
  2. Wow...that's some list. Am here 17 years and only bitten by "red ants"... They like hanging out on my front gate...and I live in the sticks.
Many different species have crossed my path from snakes in my kitchen down to things my old eyes can bearly see and all without incident (except above).
Thing is....whenever I do come accross them I see them through eyes of amazement and wonder at the beauty of nature and for me...proof of the existance of God.
Unlike many on here (absolutely no reference to yourself, just a general observation) who like to boast how they slautered their latest victim, usually a snake.

And which particular version of god/gods would you be referring to?

The one that created all these beasties that can cause harm and the one that created parasites that can burrow into children’s eyes?

It’s the natural world dude. These creatures have evolved to suit their surroundings, and they need to protect to themselves against predators. They weren’t created by some sky fairy who thought “I’ll snap my fingers and make some cool bugs and beasties today cos I’m bored”!
  3. I haven't tried yet as the food looks kind of boring to me but I just noticed they joined eatigo.com offering discounts as much as 50 percent depending on time slot. Their healthy burritos looked interesting though.

Yes, I had one of the burritos. Very tasty and filling. I agree the way the food is presented makes it look boring somehow.

  4. The regular brown centipedes -- the ones that curl into a ball - don't sting.

It is the weird looking fuzzy orange ones (I think actually millipedes? that do and they really, really hurt.

The smallish ones that curl into a ball when you touch them are millipedes - these have more legs than centipedes (milli v centi).

Centipedes legs stick out to the side and they look nasty!

  5. They are very very very painful!!!

They will not kill you or make you sick... just make the place they bit you hurt like hell.

It is recommended that you get some antibiotic from the doctor if these things bite you, because the bite often becomes infected.  But I never got any antibiotics and where it bit me healed fine.

So far living here I have a good list of things that have bitten / stung me.

    Big black scorpion X 2
    Small brown scorpion X 3
    Centipede X 1
Black / Red hornets X many!!
    Small wasps X many.
Various ants.. including big black ones that hurt like hell... X many
    Jelly fish X 1
    Dog X 2
    Spider X 1

Also been bitten my snakes.... X many... but they were not Thai ones... just my pets back in the UK!

Think that is about all I can remember.

    Still alive...

You will be happy to know that Thailand has no insects / land  invertebrates that are deadly to humans if they bite you.  But they will hurt you!  Only exception is if you get stung by a swarm of hornets, or if you have some allergy to the venom... which is very rare.

And, as I said earlier, it's recommended to get antibiotics for the centipede bite.

Ok, which was the most painful out of the lot?
  6.
    What is the promotion ?

I can’t attach a screen shot at the moment so you will have to follow the link to their Thai Facebook page that I posted earlier and scroll back to December 2016.

This will show you exactly what 20 items are included for 999 Baht, which includes EKG. They offered it to my Mrs 3 days ago, so they must be rerunning it as a 10 year promotion or whatever.
  7. iPads do offer Apple Care but iPhones don’t. iPhones you just seem to get the standard 1 year warranty. I’ve just checked using the “Apple Store (thailand)” app on my iPad, not the web version.

    Apple Store by Applehttps://itunes.apple.com/th/app/apple-store/id375380948?mt=8

I believe it’s the old reason because they don’t have an official Apple Store in Thailand, so they don’t offer it on iPhones but they do for iPads. No idea why that should be really.

Edit: Thai web version also clearly offers Apple Care for iPads as I’ve just tried it by ordering the iPad Pro.

  8. Thanks your timing was just right,  maybe I will be lucky enough to take advantage of their 10th anniversary special.

I tried to upload a screen shot showing the details of the report but this site won’t let me attach anything at the moment.

Like I said it was probably a bit lucky as my Mrs went in and asked if they did EKG and they offered her this B999 promotion with 20 items that includes it. Anyway, most of her results were normal, so no need to see a Dr. apart from the usual Thai thing of higher blood sugar and cholesterol!

I think this promotion was 5 years back in 2012 but they seem to be re-running it now....

  9. I am looking at the Lifecare website and Program 5 is the only package I see with an EKG and the price is 2,500. I use Lifecare myself twice each year and I am unaware they had a doctor on site to interpret an EKG. Given that possibility, we still are comparing apples and oranges since Phyathai and BHP include ultrasound and chest x-rays.

It’s not on the website. It’s the “5th anniversary promotion”, or something. You have to call or go in to find this out as we didn’t even know until we turned up. PM me and I’ll attach part of the report which shows you if you don’t believe me.

Link to their FB page, scroll down to post from December 2016.

  10. Thanks again. How long will it take from online application to interview. Also when the online is submitted I can see it can be amended. At what point does this stop. Can it be changed right up to the interview or does it stop once the date is given.

You can correct a mistake in pen after you have submitted the form. My Mrs made a mistake on one of her forms about 3 years ago, after we’d already submitted and printed it out. We made the correction in pen and then my Mrs undersigned it, no problems.

When you submit the online form, this is when you select the date for your application documents to be submitted at the centre. We normally allow ourselves 10 days for this so we can get together our updated utility bills, bank statements, supporting letters etc.
  11. She works in a restaurant/bar but is paid cash in hand. We have lived in the same house for 10 years but no rent book or contract so how to prove to the embassy.

Use utility bills or any correspondence to both of you to show where you live - make sure they are recent at the time of application.

Get a letter from her boss with their contact details included or something along those lines.
  12. https://www.gov.uk/apply-uk-visa

Follow the link as it’s all done online nowadays and you’ll have to create an account. Fairly straight forward after the first time but be prepared for the usual paperwork.

The most important details are your supporting evidence proving your relationship.

You will also submit all documentation at Trendy building in Bangkok. You can take your time with the online application form and you are able to save it and come back to it to make sure everything is correct.

  13. My daughter attends an international school that teaches the British curriculum, and I'm very pleased with the education she's getting. Her school has an 8:1 teacher to student ratio, and students from her school do consistently well in the Cambridge IGCSE testing. In fact, two students from her school ranked #1 in the world in two subjects.

The cost is definitely prohibitive, but giving her the best education we can afford, hopefully will be well worth it in the long run. Also, the cost of living in my home country compared to the cost of living (other than the school) here in Thailand, more than makes up for the cost of her education.

Now weigh up the costs if you’ve got 2-3 kids going through international school! What do you think her prospects will be like after finishing school in Thailand? Better than your home country? From my experience school results are one thing, but it’s the whole mentality/mindset that also matters greatly.
  14. If you have the opportunity to school your kids back in the West, then do it. Thailand will always be here later on if you/they decide to return. I have said this in previous school related posts that I have yet to meet anyone that regretted schooling their kids back in the West. There is more emphasis on developing critical thinking in the West and this can only help in their future.

  15. You must be pretty rough with the lightning cables? I’ve never worn one out, only turned yellow after 3 years. My Mrs has the original lightning cable on her iPad mini 2, nearly 4 years old, still ok but really yellow now!

I wouldn’t buy the Apple cases as they are overpriced. How about the UAG type cases for the iPad Pro? They are also a little pricey but really tough.

  16. If you would, ask the missus to time Line's start up a few times. I get the green screen instantly but no action as I say usually 8-9 seconds.

While i'm here I may as well grip that the little camera on the home screen bottom right.....very useful for quick shots..... has now disappeared and is via the control centre which for me seems to take several goes to get up.

Just as an addendum if youre a Best fan he was a palomine in my Chelsea days. Great shame, had it all going for him even as he was older.....commentating, speaking engagements, and Alex a lovely wife.

Line approx 5 secs to start up on mini 2 (IOS 11)
