  1. I don't see any reason why anyone would need to carry a gun, except for those with legal entitlement due to their professions. And the least why any sensible tourist would want to buy guns in Thailand. I have few handguns from my father, and that were brought in from states. All are locked up at home, I would take them out to my bedside at night, and occasionally to shooting range. I don't go where there are risks. Never have problem with others, I just walk away from it.

Carry a gun will only invite trouble to yourself. Both from the authority, and the crooks.

  2. Both countries have to do their homeworks how to comply, not only Thai. What Cambodia will do with the village and temple near Pra Viharn? What will be done if illicit trade, casino, drugs, and human trafficking springs up in DMZ, who will have authority to deal with the crimes? Without weapon, the area would become criminal haven within days of DMZ Grand Opening! Much need to be declared and agreed upon by both countries not one or another.cool.gif

  3. The Thai can live fine without the temple. It was closed to Thai during Vietnam occupation and Khmer Rouge 1976 offensive push to General Lonnol forces. If does not really matter, trade and crossing border will remain the same.

I visited the site twice, last time 15 years ago. At the end of paved road, there was small creek running across. We have to walk down to it and then up on the other side to meet the base of the stairs. It was on Thai side with many Thai troopers. The border then is at the 19th staircase where there was a gate with Cambodian flag and few Khmer soldiers. Nothing much on the temple but ruins and dog excrement. Spectacular view at the cliff though, and we can see Chom Kasan village clearly from here. smile.gif

  4. (In my opinion) Mr. Abhisit was educated, articulate, intelligent, fair, honest and seemingly incorruptible...

He had no place in Thai politics.

Good luck Sir. It was a valiant effort (golf clap).

Abhist is a true gentlemen if of only there were more like him around, I hope he sticks around to re group the opposition, this time to his way of thinking. He came out of defeat with honour and I hope Thais acknowledge that and give him another chance. He is a force for good and I wish him well.

What kind of gentleman who endorsed fully armed soldiers, tanks, and snipers to round up people and shoot them. All is fair in love love and war? For the last seven days before the election, his speeches ain't anything but jealousy, full of accusation and sarcasm, a gentleman? Incorruptible and honest? how about allowing consuming product shortage, and then price manipulation, rotten food for the flood victims in the south, dust free roads projects, tripple war machine budget increased for the armed forces? He was ready to sell his soul to the devil to stick to the power. I wish he never ever comes back.

I'm sorry but your first sentence is complete rubbish. This therefore totally invalidates anything else you say. I wish I reaaly could say what I feel about people of your intellect on here.:bah:

Prove me wrong, if you can. And what you want to keep up yours, don't spill it.

You obviously weren't here when Thaksin was running the show. If you had been, you might have some clue about how comical your post is. Why don't you educate yourself - look up "Tak Bai" and see what a real massacre is like.

Tak Bai was accidental death caused by ignorant officials handling the case. Even with that said, that commander should be held responsible for manslaughter, unless they were proved to have intention to kill. That is far more different from sending in happy trigger snipers into Ratchaprasong. I saw few clips that a soldier took aim and shot a fallen victim twice, even his second officer told him not to. I saw soldiers strolled along Lumpini Park, leisurly pause to shoot into the park. Killing at Pathumwanaram Temple, and many more of the likes. After a whole year past, we still do not hear or see any report from the fact finding cum reconciliation committee who shot who, who must be held responsible for the hundred dead. Comiccal? right, I heard that Superman denounced American citizenship last month.

  7. Enough already.. politicians, and political clans ALWAYS come back in Thailand.

Everyone knows it's going to happen, let's call amnesty for the Airport idiots, the Ratchaprasong idiots, the army generals who sent in war weapons, and Thaksin, who's actual 'conviction' on a conflict-of-interest charge is so minor you'd almost smile about it. (Looking at what past PM's got away with; if you jail Thaksin for that then you need to jail absolutely everyone with the possible exception of Chuan.)

    Done.

I agree with you, except for Khun Chuan exxoneration. He was the PM that had the cabinet resigned for Khun Suthep misappropriated the Sor Por Kor 4-01 land for farmers to his fellows Democrat elites in the south instead. While, Khun Thaksin was convicted for influenced in the sales of land to his wife, who was the highest bidder. His PM id card was used as the evidence.

  8. Reading news report from 35th UNESCO session. The Director General Bokova said " The decision of the World Heritage Committee on the Temple of Preah Vihear World Heritage site in Cambodia only reaffirms the need to ensure the protection and conservation of the property from any damage. It further encourages the two countries to use the 1972 Convention as a tool to support conservation, sustainable development and dialogue."

If this is the case, then why the Abhisit Government is so jumpy to denounce the Committee adoption, which concern only the Temple/ shrine restoration that situates inside the land lost to Cambodia since 1962. This actually means there is nothing involve Thailand, whatsoever. They can go without Thailand anyway. More, after after a decision to a walkout protest, the caretaker government will leave it to the next government to do the official letter to UNESCO. Brave, huh...

Do some more reading. Abhisit isn't objecting to the ruling that the temple is in Cambodia, as per the 1962 ICJ ruling.

What is being objected to is Cambodia's temple management plan, which includes the use of land that is STILL in dispute, and the fact that UNESCO were still looking at this plan.

I maybe wrong, but I could not see where it mentioned management plan and the land in the vicinity. By the information given, Unesco wants Cambodia and Thailand to ensure the protection and restoration of the Shrine. Do you reckon that the Director General intend to deceive us?

  10. Things that this government should be ashamed of:

    1. Lacks of sincerity in reconciliation program

1.1 in negotiation with red-shirts from the start

1.2 in allowing delay tactic/ hiding of evident on fact finding mission of the bloody red-shirts dispersal by the military

1.3 in holding people in custody (jail) without trial, and no bails

    2. On Allowing use of deadly force, provocation, and heavy war weapons/ armory on the protesters

    3. On deny its responsibility of jointly causing deaths of so many protesters

    4. Housing crooks, corrupted ministers and official in the office

    4. In mishandling of commodities price, especially allowing cooking palm oil shortage and price increase

    5. In accuse others of not being loyal to the monarchy

The wheel is turning around, we'll see.

  11. Fighting corruption is a paramount task. But to allow it to some ministers, and look away while it happens is very close to a collusion. I have no firm evidence, but I can say there are fishy things going on right in front of the PM, such as the handling of Veggie oil price, Sales of rice from old stock, MOI computer lease, and K. Mongkol appointment to Perm Min. Secretary of MOI and nationwide district chiefs reshuffled with the endorsement of his very own Cabinet. Again, TV populist followers here would come up with some excuses for the charming PM. bah.gif
